So to conclude the saga of the artist who won’t send out the stuff I bought from him… doing a chargeback with our bank today.
Disappointing to say the least.
So let’s see, what have I done the past week? It took me a few days to recover from ABC so last week I didn’t get a ton done.
Started messing with my new Crait Leia wig. Concerned about how the lacefront also dyed darker. I’ll trim it close to the hairline for sure but it’s definitely very dark against that white wighead. Maybe I can paint it?
Didn’t finish this. Still just sitting there just like that.
Thursday Frankie got my Dr Crusher wig trimmed! I didn’t take any pics though. I still have some styling to do so I’ll take some pics when I start dealing with that.
Meanwhile got back to work on Hera and just kinda did a bit each night.
Tuesday we ran down to the Southaven Joann and I got some tafetta to back the main fabric of the Hera jacket. Here’s one of the front panels.
So like I think I said last week, the cotton just wasn’t enough on it’s own. So I’m sort-of flatlining the outer panels with the taffeta and using the cotton for the lining. I say sort-of flat-lining because the taffeta layers are different than the outer layers. I didn’t want the extra bulk of pleats on the top of the jacket backed with taffeta, so the top of the taffeta is shorter than the top of the “fashion fabric” layer, but then I built some pleats into the taffeta front panels to help with the shape past the waistline.
This is all super experimental. I have no idea how it’s going to turn out. As long as it’s wearable LOL
Pinned together and looking sloppy. But this was early on.
Luna judging me.
I had plans to sew all day Saturday up until late afternoon when we were going to run some errands and go see Spiderman. But plans got changed and we left the house at 10 AM and only came home for an hour nap in the afternoon before the movie. So I didn’t get much done Saturday.
Chase had a haircut so Kevin and I dropped him off and then wandered down into Cooper Young and shopped a bit, played some HP Wizards Unite. Went to a couple of bookstores (where the above cool thingie was spotted), Kevin got a Choose Your Own Adventure Book, I got to pet a sweet pittie, and bought some bath bombs.
Then we went out to Sephora because I’ve decided to totally switch out my basic costume makeup stuff. Past couple of years I’ve been using Murad Invisiblur primer + Ben Nye foundation + whatever setting powder I buy at target. I decided to go full Fenty with their primer + foundation + setting powder. I did their colour match on their site but I wanted to go in to double check before splurging. A nice lady applied that colour on one side of my face and the next step up on the other. I’m glad I went in because I liked the next step up better. So I got all that on Saturday but haven’t played with it yet.
Saturday night we saw Spiderman; it was cute. I really love him as Spidey.
And we came out of the movie to ALL THE MARVEL NEWS?!?! Wandavision! Wanda is in Dr Strange 2! Jane Foster Thor!!! Captain Marvel 2!! MUTANTS?!
Also THAT PICARD TRAILER
Sunday I was finally able to get some work done. I had wanted to go swimming but it was slightly cloudy and I was feeling behind on sewing so I stayed home and worked on Hera.
Here’s the cotton lining layer. It’s backwards so it matches the jacket with the seams inward. That was actually a happy accident. I hadn’t thought about which side of the back I was putting each front panel on (they’re different) until I put it on the dressform and was like OH CRAP IT’s BACKWARDS. Then I was like oh wait it’s supposed to be backwards. WHEW. LOL.
Most of the pleats on the two front panels are stitched in place.
So even without the belt they stay where they’re supposed to be.
The jacket/dress doesn’t actually have a belt. But the first image I saved of it as a reference, she had her arm across her waist and it made it look like a belt cinching the waist in. And I like that look. So I think I’m going to make a belt anyway. I can always wear it without.
Last night I got the lining set in very basically… haven’t trimmed my corners or pressed it anything, it was the last thing I did last night. Mostly last night I worked on one sleeve.
The pleats aren’t matching up at the top seam which I’m not sure if I’m going to redo or just not care about. Hoping to get the other sleeve done tonight and once I do I’ll make the call if I want to redo the pleats on the first sleeve so they match or not.
Also tonight going to finish getting the lining in and hem the bottom edge of the outer fabric.
I got my base shoes for the boots I’m making over the weekend. (Also Padme Lake dress shoes!) Didn’t take pics of either! Oops. But the shoes I got for this are just basic heels. I’m going to build the upper section of the boots out of some navy blue pleather I bought online. Also will be making gloves out of that (and the belt hopefully). I ordered that last week, should be here this week.
Also got some beads for the jacket last night for the “shoulder sparkles.” And I ordered my makeup.
AND AND! We did our first costume 3d prints.
Lake dress armbands!
And also a tricorder for my Crusher costume! I forgot to take a pic of it though.
So goals for this week:
Finish Hera coat
Make Hera boot covers
Make Hera gloves
Make Hera jewelry
Do makeup test
Have Hera totally done by the end of this weekend?? That’d be great.
