So it’s been another week of unpacking and organizing. FUN TIMES.
But the past week I’ve really dug in on the sewing room, which was equally fun and equally frustrating.
One of the things I ran across that I didn’t know what to do with was all of my CDs. I had a decent CD collection. But a lot of them was stuff I really don’t care about anymore. Men in Black soundtrack? I don’t need that. But like my whole Beatles collection? Yeah I want to keep those (even if some of them are missing a CD – I know they’re somewhere).
So the keepers I buried way back in the back of one of the shorter shelves in the built in, and layered the VHS tapes I wanted to keep in front of that (mostly my MST3K collection, and home videos – I threw the rest of the VHS tapes in the goodwill box.) Everything I decided I didn’t need, I ripped the songs I wanted to keep onto my computer and threw the rest in a box to take to goodwill. BYE! But then I thought – maybe I should ask dad if he wants to go through them? I took them to him Saturday and I think he ended up keeping about 30 of them LOL. The rest will go to Goodwill (he didn’t keep the Men in Black Soundtrack!)
All this to say 2 things – firstly I think it’s hilarious that I want to get rid of all these CDs becauee I don’t need them taking up space… but I’m trying to save a space in my sewing room for bringing my old stereo system with my record player over, and my whole collection of albums. LMAO. Ok that’s going to take up MORE space than that stack of CDs. BUT – I’ve been wanting to have my record player at my house for years but didn’t have room for it previously. I have room now! And I have a really great personal collection I built going to record shows in the 90s that I’d love to have back in my possession, plus my parents want me to go through their MASSIVE collection and take what I want. So yaaaas. Excited to have that in my sewing room.
Secondly I kept coming across Sims games. I’ve had every Sims 1, Sims 2, and Sims 3 expansion over the years (not all the stuff packs, but the actual games/expansions). I’ve hung onto them just in case but I realized – I’m never going to install these and play them ever again. Sims 1 probably wouldn’t even work on my current computer. I thought I might try to sell them. Just a big bundle. But after going through them all, I realized a handful are missing a disc (remember when some of them had like 2 install discs and 1 game play disc? Yeah.) and some are missing their serial numbers. I’d say like 75% of them have everything they need. But based on that I don’t know if they are worth selling. I really want them gone and I’m tempted to just throw them in the goodwill box to get them out of my house.
ANYWAY. Sorry for the word vomit. Onto sewing room pics!
The wall cabinet is currently just acting as a side table for my sewing desk. It was too heavy for me to move out of there by myself. But it’s not staying.
Since all my fabric is currently taking up every single drawer available, I have nowhere to put art supplies, so they’re all just in that corner in various containers. I’m hoping we can get the new ikea shelf in for my fabric sooner rather than later. I also don’t want to keep that black cubby thing in my office but for now I had to have it for the fabric.
I’m wondering if I should see if Chase could install shelves in the hanging side of my wardrobe. That might help with some of this.
Last week I also got the light plate switch cover changed out. It was a baseball. Now it’s:
So I was on my own this weekend again. 3rd weekend in a row but this was Chase’s last traveling weekend. YAY! Friday I had a hair cut after work, then since I was in midtown I decided “TREAT YO SELF” and got myself some Molly’s take out and went home and ate it while watching disney videos on youtube. Then upstairs to work on my sewing room – it was my goal to get it “finished” for now this weekend and… I got it “finished” on Friday! Earlier than I expected! Yay! So I was free to focus on other stuff for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday morning I went out to my parents, played with Skye, and picked up a few things from out there. One of which was one of the boxes from my closet I packed up earlier last year. I hadn’t really had time to go through the stuff when I packed it up – just threw out trash, had a donation box, and everything else just got quickly packed. So going through this box was fun. (Can’t wait to get box #2 home but it was too heavy to handle on my own)
One of the things in that box? A giant stack of SunDowners:
Which is great because previously I’ve only had the copies I signed to my grandparents. So now I’ve got the last stack of clean copies.
Also a SunDowner mouse pad and tank top.
A bunch of toys, tapes, pins. Earlier last week I’d gone through all my old con badge collection on my insta story and lamented I didn’t have my Animazement 2001 badge anymore – which would be my oldest badge I’d have. I found it in the box!
Tucked inside a lunchbox.
Also from Animazement 2001 – the missing original photos of my Bat Thief Sakura and Beatrix, I can finally scan those in and have better copies than 300px tall!! I’ve been looking for those for YEARS!
I spent most of the rest of Saturday painting. Found some more boxes of things that needed to be downstairs and not in Chase’s office, unpacked those. Ate my leftovers, cleaned up.
Sunday was more painting, but I also decided to do some things in my sewing room.
I got some curtains for the front window of my sewing room at Ikea last week. Really wanted these covered sooner rather than later because I felt like I was on display to the whole cove especially at night LOL. I decided I wanted them to be short, so above you can see where I trimmed one off as a start. Sunday morning I took them down, trimmed the other one and hemmed them. Though when I put them back up, I decided they were still about 2 inches longer than I wanted, so I pinned them up a little bit – but didn’t finish the job. Didn’t feel like taking them down again just yet. LOL.
Then I decided I wanted to update the pin insert of the bag I made back in December. I made it black because it was what was leftover from lining the bag, but some of my pins didn’t show up well on a black background. Especially since I got these 2 beauties in the mail Saturday:
So I decided to make a new cover for the insert out of some teal peachskin I’d bought for TFA Leia and didn’t use.
Ta da! I was going to switch the theme up but since I got the new Leia and Padme ones, decided to stick with my rebel girl theme a little longer.
Speaking of pin bags… mom let me know I had a delivery Friday. I got it from her Saturday morning!
It was my cute mouse ita bag I backed on kickstarter last year!!!!!
So while I was making a new insert for my bag, I made one for the mouse one, too.
It also came with 3 gorgeous pins I apparently didn’t get a picture of, but the big Disneyland “D” in the center of that pic is one of them. I decided to go with a disney dog theme on that one for now. The other 2 pins that came with it are a Fantasyland ticket and a castle!
While doing all this I also gathered up all my pins and got them put back on my pin board. I kinda want to ditch the pin board though – it’s just a basic brown corkboard and its ugly. I had a friend on IG mention they made felt pennants to display their pins and that sounds SUPER CUTE, plus I’d be able to do my straight back pins on that too, which I can’t do on the corkboard.
Went to dinner with my parents, came home, painted some more. Watched a movie. Chase got home just before 11. Now I’m here at work. Boo.
I have TWO art pieces to post today! Yay.
This one was based on a TPM era concept sketch that I think may have been meant for the handmaidens. My colour choices were inspired by a couple of georgian era floral gowns. I’m really happy with this one. I kinda want to make it.
This was another unused TPM concept sketch. SO art nouveau and Ozma. I decided I wanted to do this one as a very young Padme, pre-Queen. I really like how it turned out… it’s kinda like Picnic Dress Jr with a splash of parade gown too.
