So Friday at Dragon Con last week, I almost fell while wearing Dolores. I was going down those short steps between the Hyatt and the food court, there by the chair lift, and I misjudged my step and nearly fell. I managed to grab onto the rail and keep myself from totally falling over… but managed to twist my foot in my effort to stay up right.
I thought, oh great… it’s going to hurt me all weekend now, on top my other foot stuff going on.
But it didn’t, it stopped hurting after just a couple of minutes. Yay!
Well yesterday it decided to come back. Like seriously it gave me a week’s break, and now it hurts again. It’s the same spot. I do appreciate it laying off til after Dragon Con, at least… but I’m definitely hobbling around like an old lady.
Friday we went out to see dad’s band play. Saturday mom and I had a day trip!
We drove out to Nashville to see the “Dressing Downton” exhibit at Cheekwood! We’d been wanting to go since we heard about it, but with Dcon stuff I hadn’t been able to go.. but this past weekend was the last weekend so we decided to get up there before it was gone.
We headed up around 8:30, got in right around 11:30. Had lunch in the Pineapple Room and then headed on towards the main house. Neither of us had ever been to Cheekwood, it’s beautiful!
We walked up the hill to the house only for me to realize I’d lost my ticket. I thought I’d stuck it in my pocket but it wasn’t there. Dug through my bag, no go. Mom said she remembered seeing a ticket laying on the ground back down by the visitor’s center, so we walked back down there… the ticket was still there, and it was mine! So that was super lucky it hadn’t gotten picked up or blown away – I figure it fell out of my pocket when I pulled my phone out, while we were standing there.
We had an hour to kill before our tour time so we checked out the cars…
Then we were a little hot so we went on inside to just sit til our tour time. But the lady scanning the tickets said we could go on in – yay! We thought we’d have to sit around and wait for 45 minutes.
The exhibit was really great. The costumes were not behind glass and you could lean right over to them. It was very hard to keep my hands to myself.
I wish I’d taken one of Chase’s nicer cameras instead of just taking pics with my phone. Live and learn.
The detail on this one was amazing.
I think mom and I both agreed this one was our fav.
(I have quite a few pics with mom’s head in the frame LOL)
This one was beautiful, too:
If I were going to pick one to recreate, it would be the pale purple on the left:
And they had Mary’s dress I was going to make back in 2013!
I decided not to do it before I bought my fabric… but if I change my mind, I have lots of references now.
My only beef with this particular costume set-up was that they had it set-up in the dining room with large windows directly behind it. So it was hard to get a good picture.
But if you weren’t taking pics, it was lovely.
After we’d seen everything we looked around a little more…
I almost bought the program – it was only $20. But the free handout they’d given us with our tickets had a good amount of info about each costume in it, so that was good enough for me.
If you want to see my whole gallery, it’s Here. Password is “downton.” If you’re making any of those costumes and want bigger versions, just message me and I’ll send them to you!
We came on home and I slept for like, 2 hours straight LOL… then had dinner and went to Target and got to see all of the Halloween stuff!! My fav!!!
Yesterday I mostly rested. Caught up on sleep from dcon. Had kind of a migraine so it was good to just relax.
There’s been a “cosplay improvement” thing going around and even though I’ve done them before I wanted to do them again on IG.
I started out with this one, because the poses were so similar. Two “big” Star Wars costumes, 15 years apart…
Then I dug back to one of my oldest pics I could find – my Quistis from 1999. Since it looked kinda pink here I went with a pink costume for the “now” side – the pink Belle from 2015.
And then 2000… Sailor Jupiter vs the newer Belle. These two really didn’t go together, but I liked this old pic and I wanted to use Belle somewhere.
Selphie from 2001 and Donna from 2015… I put these two together since they’re both kinda straight, shape-less dresses.
Lulu from 2002 and Anne from 2014. I paired these up because they were both “big” costumes to me, and both of these photos were “detail” shots.
Green bodypaint in 2002 vs 2015! LOL Liquid Latex vs Ben Nye, essentially. Disgust is totally saying “EW NO WAY” to the liquid latex experience.
And the one I always do, the last minute 2002 Leia vs the current.
Though hopefully that one won’t be “current” for much longer. I’m hoping to have Leia mk 4 done later this year. But that’s a post for another day.
This weekend is Memphis Comic Expo. Going to go up for a bit Saturday, likely in the morning if everything works out right. I will probably wear TFA Leia – we’re coming home and shooting my 4 new costumes on the backdrop while I’ve got costume makeup already on. So it would be easier to wear one of those to the con and then just come home and shoot it. But also thinking maybe Bespin. We’ll see.
