ugh! it’s monday again.
Starting to feel sad about not being at DragonCon Thurs-Fri. (Not really so much Sunday because usually by Sunday I’m ready to go home LOL) I think it’s because I’ve been looking back at old pictures a lot recently and feeling nostalgic for “old” DragonCon. I’ve been wanting to do another “look back” post… I might do that after this one.
I was off work early Friday so mom picked me up and we went shopping. I got 2 cute dresses, 2 tops and a pair of jeans. Here’s one of the dresses:
The 2 new tops I got are both really long and don’t really look right with shorts so I haven’t gotten to wear them yet… it’s too hot for pants.
Sunday night was more flower painting, though I could see the light at the end of the tunnel by then.
Saturday morning I spent setting up my new laptop a bit more and moving files. THough I’m still not finished. Chase put my BB-8 sticker on it.
Saturday afternoon we ran a few errands. Got some good stuff in the mail!
I’ve been needed new wall hooks for my scissors in my sewing room – since adopting my grandmother’s collection, my one hook wasn’t near enough for them all anymore. (Seriously I went from 3 to like 12). Chase surprised me with this cute dog one from etsy! Yay!
Also got my wig stuff from arda! The pigtail clips are so cute.
Saturday night I finally got the rest of the flowers painted. DONEZO
Then I started messing with the sleeves. I again played around with making them detachable, as I originally wanted. I got one done… and then decided to pin the other one completely as if it were sewn in place… and I like how they looked much better š So much for detachable sleeves. So I undid all that I’d done on one of them, took the lace flounces and bows off, and sewed them on. I could only get them partially through the the machine, and hand-sewed the rest. Then got the flounces and bows sewn back on.
But before I did that, I did try it all on finally, on Saturday night after I’d finished the skirt.
My shawl is definitely too big. I’m going to take it apart tonight and cut it down. But the good news – I thought I was going to have to hem the petticoat higher based on how it was sitting on the dressform, but the skirt hangs lower on me so, no more hemming! Yay!
I was briefly considering repleating the skirt once the flowers were done. Doing box pleats or something so that I’ve got rows laying flat. I dunno. Maybe.
I’ve had these “frame” beads in my stash as far back as Marie Antoinette – I used them for my earrings with a blue jewel glued in the center. I printed out Master Gracey portraits (both versions) to put into the frames and put them in the center of bow on the sleeves.
I didn’t want to add ribbons to my pink flats permanently, since I still need them plain for Disgust — so I just made a big “loop” out of my leftover stretch taffeta to wear underneath them, good enough.
Sunday morning, I discovered there’d been a vicious attack on Kermit:
She’d gotten him down from the top shelf of our big kitchen shelf! Kermit may have to move into my sewing room for his safety.
Sunday was the sleeve work I mentioned above, and a lot of wig work, too. I ended up using the same Glinda wig I used for Leia last year, just in dark brown this time, and two ponytail clips for the side curls.
I had a hard time curling the ponytail clips though. I put curlers in them and put them in boiling water, but they were just coming out a mess.
Finally, I ended up carefully wrapping each curl in a curler, after slathering it in Got2B, then pressing it in my hair straightener for 20 seconds. The resulted in some neater curls.
Still not perfect, but we’re getting there. I need to reposition them (easy enough on a clip) and maybe trim them up, or at least pin some of the long curls up.
Tonight I need to get the other side curled, and put the back into a boun. As well as working on the shawl.
