I’m posting a lot today.
I was digging through old hard-drives trying to find some missing pictures last night when I came across some pics of a project that did not get finished. I’m sharing it today with Chase’s permission.
Back in 2012 when I was making my newer Belle ballgown, you can find mentions and photos of the new Beast costume Chase was making to match. I think the last mention of it is as late as April 17th.
But, if you were paying close attention, Beast made no appearance at DragonCon that year. Or at any event since then.
Chase put a lot of work into that costume; he sculpted and painted the face, created a shell to build everything into including a monitor so he could see, and custom stilts and everything. I altered the old jacket to fit the new body (though I was unhappy with it and wanted to make a new one). We got as far as a test run on August 27th, and here’s the photo from that:
It was probably at about 80% finished at this point, and this was his first time wearing the stilts and head together. His legs were shaking and he was claustrophobic and feeling weird inside the giant head. (It didn’t help that his visuals – from the monitor – were reversed.) I got really worried, because wearing my new ballgown, there was only going to be so much I could do to help him if something went wrong at the con, or he needed help with something. We both felt like there was too much that needed redone to finish it before Dragoncon, and it got put on the back burner. I went ahead with my ballgown, but I was sad I didn’t have my Beast with me.
So there’s one of those little unfinished things that just kinda hang around the house. I never posted these test run pics since we decided to put it on the backburner… but now that it’s 3 years later, I think we can consider it even off the backburner and it’s ok to share LOL
