A-Kon 2005 Pics & SDCC Plans!

First off – I actually won the Amidala Look a Like Contest at Cosplaylab. I couldn’t believe it, there were so many good entries, and people I knew – I was hoping to get maybe honorable mention, but – yay! It made my weekend.

SO I didn’t get Yuuko *completely* finished – I’m going to get it finished for MTAC next year. I didn’t attach the sleeves to the bodice, and I didn’t do the undersleeves, or the white trim on the bottom or the back. So I still have that stuff to do. But it looked done enough that I could wear and people knew who I was šŸ™‚

The first pic was the badge I had made by Durham Photography – I took a photo of it (i should scan it instead, but it looks OK.. the scratches on the lamination made it look vintage so I desaturated it, too.)

It went over well. It wasn’t as bad to get around in as I thought it was going to be.
Otherwise…
Eternal Jupiter: That was my LAST time wearing it. It’s starting to show its age. The gloves look gross (they’re 6 years old!!), the tiara and choker are starting to show their age, too… parts of it are just starting to wear out. It’s had enough. I’m still going to do PGSM Jupiter next year to replace it.

Belldandy: I still love wearing that costume. I redid the wig antenna last year and they looked much better, but I was wearing it too far back on my head (I noticed in photos afterward :P) and I think that’s why the wig was hurting my head. It’s also starting to show it’s age… I think next year I may make her magenta TV version to replace it.

Mara: The rip on the leg is much, much worse. I decided to remake the whole bodysuit before Comic Con. I can just use this one as a pattern so I won’t have to go through so many trials and errors, so I dont think it will take long. Also decided I like wearing just the hood up without the cape best.

Rally: Actually looked ok. I was worried about the wig, it being so old. Actually had 2 people recognize me. Score! Hate those shoes, though.

Hild: I could only bear it for about an hour. How did I wear it for so long last year? Especially with no one there to help me pick up the bottom and stuff :\ The wig hurt, the tape kept popping off on my stomach, and the shoes are still the most painful shoes I’ve ever worn. I doubt I’ll wear it again, unless a terrific opportunity comes up (ie, another AMG group or something)

A-kon was good, overall. There just isn’t much there that keeps my interest. I won’t be going back next year – next year MTAC will probably be my only anime con. Saw some lovely costumes, bought an action figure, and mostly just took my cousin around and let him look at things.

The only bad moment was saturday night. It was midnight, and we’d been trying to go to sleep for over an hour by then. We had to get up super early this (sunday) morning to catch our flight. There were a bunch of people just standing out in the hall outside our room, talking loud and laughing and just being RUDE. We kept expecting them to go away, go to their room or something but no. I mean, I don’t care if you do that, but go somewhere where people aren’t sleeping. After an hour of this, Mom called security on them. I don’t know if security ever came, because I finally fell asleep. But really! Have some respect for other people.

Comic Con!
I ordered a base bodysuit for Starfire but it hasn’t come yet. I need to start looking for a wig. Also got the paint I need for the bodysuit. This week I’m going to see if they still have that spandex I liked for the purple parts. I was originally going to use stretch vinyl, but I think that’ll look too wrinkly, so I’m going with spandex. Besides, good excuse to get more thread for the serger ;P
For Arwen, I got all my velvet, and material for the underdress! I love the fabric I got for the upper sleeves. I want to put it in some red dye and see what happens, though, haha. I got 3 different velvets: a red I’m definitely using for the sleeves, black micro velvet and white silk velvet. I’d rather use the silk velvet, but nowhere could I find it in the deep, deep blue colour. So I’m either going to try to dye it, or use the black and just go black/red. Though I think if I go black/red I may send back the white and get black silk velvet, and try to take back the micro velvet. I’m confusing myself, so I’d better stop.
