A madhouse

This weekend was a madhouse! Thursday the last of my fabric came, so I got my dress panels sewn together, pleated, and attached to the yoke that night. Friday I got it hemmed and discovered my two front panels were a bit too short. At this point I didn't even had time to freak out, just took some of my scrap fabric and made extensions. Oh well. Friday night I ...

Disneybounding Leia Progress

Since I'm stuck waiting on my last bit of fabric for the dress, I did some prep work last night on Edith: -Got the other 4 panels sewn together -sewed the pearl buttons on the sleeves and neckline -finished gathering the sleeves And I finished up my Leia shirt. Got it pressed and as much of the thread from the previous hem plucked out - I may need to go it ...

blaaaaaah

So I got my new fabric last night, started cutting and realized I was 2 yards short. So ordered 2 more yards this morning and LORD I am done spending money on this costume.

after the weekend…

First up, let's talk Edith... Didn't do much on it this weekend. I DID get my leotard made (for wearing underneath it, it can still be somewhat see-through especially when walking or seen under a bright light). Nothing fancy, just used some leftover nude spandex, didn't hem or it finish the edges or anything and it pulls on so no zipper needed. Really, the dye job isn't TERRIBLE once it's ...

I did it

I looked over my budget. Found I'd gotten about $25 in overtime on my paycheck yesterday. Plus $30 for a couple of alterations. That was close enough. I pulled the trigger and bought new fabric. I just wasn't ever going to be happy with it like this -- and I figured out another use for the already dyed panels I'll be taking off - I'm going to try to go ahead and ...

I give up

I soaked the upper part of the dress in a full box of dye remover last night. When I didn't see much of a change, but I let it dry overnight. And all I've done is cause the discolouration to move higher up on the side that was good. At this point I know it's the orange/yellow tones from the red dye that aren't going to go anywhere. Argh. ...

A giant mess

Well on the good news side, my spoonflower fabric decided it'd had enough of vacationing in the north and is finally at the local post office. Whew! Next, I dug in and got the yoke pieces sewn together and attached. They weren't attached yet here, just sewn together: I ended up having to make a small extension for the back. If I wanted the pleats to look as tight as ...

I hate you USPS

Last night I finally got into the groove of pleating those yoke pieces and actually knocked out the last two pieces. HOORAY! But I don't have a picture of it. Instead I'm just here to update you on my spoonflower fabric's journey across the United States. Yesterday it left Wisconsin and arrived in Cleveland, OH in the afternoon. It left Cleveland last night, so who knows where it will show ...

argh

My spoonflower fabric was supposed to be here yesterday but apparently decided to take a detour and go to Wisconsin instead. The wrong end of the country. So since I didn't get to work on my shirt last night, back to Edith. Got the other side of the yoke piece finished. It's just pinned on at the moment and I haven't trimmed it to match the other side yet. Two ...

post-weekend… 2 weeks to go

Friday night and Saturday day I did my best to sew as much as possible. I did finally conquer the dress portion of the costume: I got the top portion cartridge pleated and then sewn onto my yoke piece. I had to go back and fix some problems on the yoke that were causing a fit issue - that took up a bulk of my afternoon. While I got that ...
