All Peggy, all the time

This weekend I got a LOT done on Peggy. I jumped in and cut out my actual fabric, got the lining put together, and then the front side put together: Another shot: I did a test run of a attempting a double welted pocket. And then a quick test fit of the jacket with the skirt. And then I attempted the pocket on my jacket..... and didn't like how it ...

Jacket mockup

Yall can probably expect me to actually update on costumes on a pretty regular basis this summer; I've been in a posty mood and I don't see it fading. Here's my 2nd jacket mockup I put together last night. I just put the pieces together and left it - tonight I need to press the seams and play with the collar and the fit. I used this high quality felt ...

Lots of work

So last night I got all of this done Yes, that's right, I cut out four squares of black fabric and pinned them to my dressform. Man that was a lot of work. Actually I spent most of the evening researching the costume and gathering up my references into one folder, and then I went and cut out the fabric for it. I had a dress already shaped very similar, ...

This weekend’s projects…

On Saturday, I jumped in and dyed my wool. Just as reminder, here's what it looked like originally along with my dye tests: Chase helped me fill up one of our big bins with hot water. Then we took it outside for the actual dyeing: Here it is drying: And then we went to see X-Men, which I enjoyed very much. Yesterday, I jumped right in. Started on a mock-up ...

Dye test

Dye tests on my Peggy Carter fabric:

Peggy Carter fabric

I picked up fabric for Peggy while in Atlanta this weekend! Color is not 100% - but it matches up pretty well, both in texture and weight, to the actual fabric of my grandfather's WWII jacket, and since that's my main inspiration, I'm very pleased with it. Will probably do a test dye sometime soon and see if I can edge it a little bit greener. When my grandfather showed me ...

DRAGONCON COMETH

Now Momocon is out of the way I get to dig into Dragoncon stuff. On our way out of Atlanta, we stopped by Gail K Fabrics, and I found some fabric I'm happy with for Peggy Carter. I'm beyond myself excited to tackle Peggy and Anne Boleyn - so I'll be jumping on those, first. I've really got to figure out where I was on Johanna and get her going ...

Adventures in Fabric

First off, many thanks to my husband who has been dealing with Joann Fabrics for me trying to hunt down more of this fabric. Secondly, a lot of this post is just me venting frustration. First off, why would you ever manufacture a fabric only 45" wide. This needs to stop. The shortest should be 60". So, to recap, I found a decently good fabric for my Anne costume at Joann in ...

Donna – Unicorn and the Wasp Thoughts

Ever so vaguely crazy. I can knock the basic dress out in a day or two. But I want to bead/embroider the whole thing. Will I manage this before Dragoncon while also doing my other projects? Stay tuned to find out.

Peggy Carter – Thoughts

I've been entranced by WWII uniforms ever since I tried my grandfather's Air Force uniform jacket on several, several years ago. The construction of it was just so beautiful. So, I thought this would be fun to do. I've got a wig picked out. And I've been hunting fabric. The problem with the fabric, though, is cost. I found something very nice but it was going to be way way ...
