Stitch Set – Lilo and Stitch
Made for: Disney Trip April 2021 (Stitch Version), Disney Trip 2022 (Marvel Version), Dragoncon 2023 (Star Wars Version)
Background: So yes this is not a costume. Stuff like this usually just gets a little mention in my portfolio and not a dedicated page. But I loved this so much I decided… it’s my website, I’ll do what I want LOL

Part 1: The Stitch Outfit
So this outfit actually sprung from my original plan for my new Leia disneybound I was planning for our Spring 2020 trip. I wanted to do a jacket that basically looked like the top of Leia’s ANH dress (which I did do), and originally, under that, I wanted to make a 1 piece romper.
I’d only ever tried on a romper at Target once before, and hated how it looked on me… so I was nervous about making one as a costume piece and it looking terrible. So first I did a test out of some scrap lining just to check the fit… but that wasn’t really a close enough equivalent. I had a few yards of this blue knit with Stitch printed all over I’d picked up at Joann a few years ago, so I figured – let’s do a full, wearable mock-up out of this, because that’ll be fairly close to the Leia jet set and I can get a good idea of how it will look.
So using the pattern above I made the Stitch romper in a couple of days. It was not difficult and I got it about 98% complete (IIRC all I had left was to close up the elastic enclosure at the waist at the inside)… I tried it on and… didn’t like it.
And that was on March 15 that I decided I didn’t like it. I set it to the side as it started to become apparent that our May 2020 trip wasn’t happening so there really wasn’t a pressing need to figure out my next step. So the Stitch romper got tossed in the project bin and forgotten about for a few months.
In Early 2021 I changed my idea for the Leia disneybound and dropped the idea of a romper (made a tennis dress instead), but that still left me with a nearly finished Stitch romper that was pretty cute but just didn’t look great on me. Almost a year later (March 2021) I finally pulled it back out and took stock of it. i decided the best thing to do would be to take it apart and make it 2 pieces. If that didn’t work, I figured I’d at least be able to salvage the shorts part just because of the way the romper is constructed.
So I seam-ripped open the waist seam, then closed it back on itself – i also put in a wider piece of elastic than the pattern originally called for which I think helped with the fit a little more than the piece I’d originally had in there. Then I cleaned up the lower edge of the top and hemmed it, and also tacked the back flap opening so it would stay closed (originally it was held closed by being sewn into the waist seam).
Overall i was SUPER happy with how it came out! It was so much cuter on me than the romper. And best of all – it ended up being VERY comfy to wear at disney, probably the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn in the parks. I had pockets, I had a loose fitting shirt, I had a vent in the back that let a breeze through… it was great. I loved it so much I decided to make another in a new fabric for our next trip!
Part 2: The Marvel Outfit
Well I kept my word – in 2022 I decided to make another using the exact same pattern!
I wanted to find another soft stretch knit representing another fandom I loved and I had my eye set on something Marvel-based. But every licensed Marvel knit I could find was just… ugly. So ugly. So I finally decided I’ll do it myself.
I set about drawing all my fav characters, just very quick, simple versions, no shading, heavy lines. Then I lined them all up and made a repeat with a blue background. I had that printed on spoonflower’s knit, got 2 yards.
And again used the exact same pattern, it went together in just a couple of days. Was very happy with the result. And fun to wear something that’s not only my own sewing but my own art too. My only beef is that the spoonflower knit is SO much heavier than the Stitch fabric so the top lays a little differently, but it’s still comfy and fun.
Part 2: The Star Wars Outfit
I got the cutest Star Wars knit fabric from knitorious fabric’s May the 4th sale in 2023, so of course I knew what I wanted to do with it immediately. This was a SUPER quick build, since I’ve made this twice before already LOL. In order to save some of my Star Wars fabric, I opted this time to do the facing and pockets out of a teal spandex I had leftover from Dr Crusher, which I thought was a cute accent – and it saved me a lot of my nice Star Wars fabric, I still have a full yard left!
I wore this one to Dragoncon 2023 but didn’t get any pics! So I took it on our Disney cruise in 2024 so I finally have some pics to add here.
History: So I did Stitch in 2021 – Marvel in 2022 – Star Wars in 2023 – do I need a 4th? Depends on if I find fabric I like. A LOTR outfit would be cute…
