Edwardian Gown – Unused Concept

This was an early concept piece in the project, one of the first ones I jumped on because it was one of the few I had a nice, big, full colour copy of the concept art to look at.
Something about the sleeves and the “sash” effect of the front really put me in the mind of Edwardian mutton chop sleeves. So I kept calling it the Edwardian dress.

I imagine most of this to be a plush silk black velvet, with a sort of “berry” and lavender colored panels/gathered sections. The sleeves and front and sides of the skirt have large patches of gold appliqued lace motifs added, and the bodice has a solid gold appliqued center framed by the swaths of fabric.

The headpiece is a sort of whimsical gold metallic “headband” with plates and pieces framing the face; the hair appears to be wrapped around a long twisted “cone” of this, but I would build the hair around a foam form and add the gold tip at the end to imitate the look.
