Sakura – Card Captor Sakura
Made for Animazement 2001
Other Appearances: N/A
I really liked Card Captor Sakura, but at that time in my life I was not a big fan of big poofy cute princess dresses. So I decided I wanted to do the bat thief costume, since it was a little more sporty. I picked this to be my 3rd costume for my first anime con, Animazement 2001. (I thought everyone brought 1 costume for each day of the 3 day con. Even back then I was extra – I took 4.)
My fabric store had absolutely no stretch material in the dark green colour I needed, so mom and I decided to just make it out of black stretch knit. Which came in handy, because then I just used a pair of bike shorts for the shorts, and we didn’t have to make that. The top we just kinda draped and fitted to me. The wings I made out of bent up wire hangers, covered in black pantyhouse, and we cut two holes in the back of the shirt for them to insert into. Once we had them in, we wired the two pieces together on the inside of the top.
The boot covers were just tubes of fabric with elastic at the top, worn over boots I already had. All of the “diamonds” were made of blue felt, and sewn in place… except on the hat. I had this hat and loved it and didn’t want to have felt diamonds permanently sewed on, so we just pinned them.
My accessories all came from ebay.
I really liked this costume. It was a lot of fun. I do still have it somewhere… but never wore it anywhere again.
