Many Minnie Ears
Various Minnie Ears
Made in 2018-2019
Bespin Leia Ears
The first ears I made for our December 2018 trip! Embroidered the designs onto fabric leftover from my Bespin Leia costume, bow was also leftover material.
Beauty and the Beast ears
I helped my friend Ash put these together for our December 2018 trip. I mostly did the ear assembly, covering the headband, and she did everything else!
Avengers Ears
I had a yard of Avengers fabric I didn’t know what to do with, soooo ears! Bow in matching fabric with a black glitter band in the middle.
Porg Ears
Another case of fabric I had sitting around – Porg and R2D2 fabric. Made a blue spandex bow with a white/silver stripe in the middle (kinda R2-D2-ish), and added a BB8 pin I had to the center.
NASA Ears
AND more fabric out of my stash I didn’t know what to do with. Bow made of black glitter ribbon with wire edges and added some black sequin trim to the center. Thought it was kinda spacey.
Captain Marvel Ears
I originally made the bow for these to go with the Avengers ears above – but then I didn’t like how they looked together. So I made a new Avengers bow for those ears, and made Captain Marvel ears to go with this bow. It was all leftover fabric – blue fabric from TFA Leia, red and yellow spandex from my Captain Marvel costume. I found the starburst charm at Michael’s!
These were some of my favs I did, my only regret was that when I did the “stripes” on the ears, I’d intended for them to be angled downwards towards my head. I didn’t consider that the ears would be tilted themselves – so they just ended up looking straight across. That’s just me being nitpicky. LOL.
Leia Ears
Made of leftover white fabric & white sequin netting from my medieval Leia costume – the bow is made of a super cool silver metal trim I got at Joanns. Couldn’t cut it, had to glue it! I thought it evoked her belt a bit. Center of the bow is white/silver ribbon. I had this rebel bird Mickey pin that I thought was perfect to put in the middle.
Haunted Mansion Tightrope Walker Ears
Made out of leftover satin, purple velveteen, pink chiffon and white lace trim – all from my Tightrope Walker costume. Painted the flowers onto the white satin side, and added this button Ash got me for Christmas. Right after I finished these I found out Disney was already selling Tightrope Walker ears. LOL. Oh well.
Padme Lake Dress Ears
I struggled with with Padme costume I wanted to represent on my trip with the ears… finally settled on the lake dress because it IS my fav. Had some scrap silk chiffon I dyed – pleated them onto a white satin backing to create the “draped’ ears. The bow is some white satin trim I’d bought to do another lake gown but still hadn’t used – dyed it too. I probably should’ve left that in the dye a bit longer but I like that the lighter bow contrasts with the darker dyed ears.
(I updated these in 2022 – see photo here – I was never happy with the bow, so I made a new one out of silk and made some sequin/bead flowers for the center of the bow similar to the beaded bunches on the tie of the lake dress).
Beauty and the Beast Ears, Part 2
At the last minute before our 2019 trip, I had enough materials leftover to do one more set of ears… and I had the Beauty & the Beast cotton I’d used for the lining of Chase’s suit. So I used that and some leftover Belle materials for the bow. It was so last minute I didn’t even take a pic of them… and then I didn’t even wear them on our trip LOL. Here’s a screencap from a tiktok video.
Stitch and Grogu Ears
I bought a fat quarter of this INCREDIBLY CUTE and INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE (hence the fat quarter only) Grogu/Stitch cotton. I was able to eek these ears and 2 masks out of it. Covered the headband in leftover Padme nightgown shoe velour fabric, and the bow is leftover glitter fabric from Poe Dameron Leia.
Star Wars Toile
I had a yard of this knitorious Star Wars toile – I made a shirt, and then made a mask and this pair of ears. Han and Leia on the front, Luke/Lando/Chewie on the back. Bow is leftover Aurora velvet.
Stitch Ears
Christmas present for @Lindenash! Went back to the same fabric store I got the above Stitch and Grogu fabric from and saw this Stitch fabric and knew it had to be for Ash’s ears.
Muppets Ears
Anytime I see cute cotton at Joann that I need to have but don’t have anything to use it for – it’s gonna be ears at this point LOL. Got a yard of this Muppets fabric – the bow and headband covering are made of the leftover sequin fabric from Sailor Jupiter.
Liberty Dies Padme Ears
I had tons of fabric and supplies leftover from this costume build so why not. I used the surcoat fabric and velvet piping for the headband. Got the embroidery machine back out and embroidered the swirls onto the velvet again for the bow (and added an HTV Naboo symbol to the bow just to make it more “Padme”). The ears themselves were the one panel I had tested the heat-cut velvet floral design on – it’s the taffeta fabric with the floral velvet cuts glued on. I had to reinforce the velvet to the the taffeta with some hand-sewing. My most work-intensive ears, up until the next ones…
Post-Senate Queen Amidala Ears
I also had a ton of materials leftover from this Amidala costume, and I had time to do one more set before the trip – I planned to do them on IG live to show folks how I make them. I let folks vote between 3 options I had fabric for, and these Amidala ears were the clear winner. But I had to figure out how to make this work for ears. I decided to use the fluffy robe fabric for the ears, and the floral silk for the bow, with some of the gold trim around the bow band. But how to make the beaded appliques work on a round ear shape? I decided to use the collar applique from the costume as a base, and cut the basic shape out of felt. I decided instead of recreating the beaded applique from the costume exactly, instead I’d do an “inspired by” version. I applied a black glitter HTV Naboo symbol in the center of each felt piece (it is VERY sparkly in real life), then beaded around that. I didn’t completely copy the beading from the original costume, but just did something close and did use my beads leftover from the costume. Love how art deco they look. They did turn out pretty heavy, though. They fell off my head a few times at disney LOL
Ariel
I usually don’t make character ears like this, especially when Disney already has similar Ariel ears. But when I did the IG poll I mentioned in the Amidala segment above, Ariel came in #2, and since it was going to take me a while to do the beading for Amidala, I decided I’d do the Ariel ear build on live. This is all fabric leftover from other projects – the sequin fabric from the headband ear base was leftover from some American-Girl-Doll sized Elsa costumes I made a few years ago, the teal gauze over the top of the ears is fabric I’ve used as “mist” in my Halloween cauldron every year, and the bow is leftover purple velveteen from my Tightrope Walker bodice. I added some turquoise beads to the bow and a sparkly starfish charm I had in my stash.
