    Raaaaaaawr

I spent pretty much the entire weekend on the sleeves. I cut off the old pearls, and went back and reinforced each slash with some extra stabilizer. Then I started on the pearls. I watched a LOT of netflix. Last night, I threw it back on the undersleeve and pinned it on to see how it was looking: There’s still…

Dragoncon Stories: That Time I Won

So far all of my Dragoncon 2003 stories sound a whole lot like whining. I promise you that isn’t true. All of these stories make me laugh, then and now. But just to balance out some of the whining-type stories, here’s a less complain-y one. Dragoncon 2002, Ash and I had missed out on Evening at Bree. We had wanted…

    Yuck

Yesterday I had a dr’s appt, which took TWO HOURS just for a freaking refill and pretty much wasted me for the rest of the day. But, I did get a little bit done. I dyed my undersleeve fabric: I really like how it turned out. I just put it in a tiny bit of “pearl grey.” Some of my…

    Yesterday

Yesterday was an interesting day. I got to work and the power was out. It was pitch black in my office. It stayed like that for an hour and a half before they got it back on. I spent the time reading on my phone curled up on the couch in the entryway. Then, found out we had visitors coming…

Dragoncon Stories: That Time My Wings Messed Stuff Up

I actually talked about this pretty recently in my blog, but here’s the whole story in its entirety. So, I’d been wearing Belldandy to every single convention that year, including shipping those wings to Dallas, Anaheim, and now Atlanta. After the Star Wars costume contest that saturday at Dragoncon, I rushed back to our hotel room – mostly to get…

    I have no pictures

I didn’t take pictures of any progress last night. But, I got the bodice taken apart and shortened, and mostly put back together. I didn’t put it all back together because I started second guessing where I wanted the skirt to go. I’m hoping to get the skirt pleated and on by tomorrow night. I did also finish all the…

Taking a break on the sleeves

Last night I got the bodice finished up, and finally got to try everything on: Buuut once I had it all on, I realized that the bodice is too long on me, and too pointy. So at lunch today I’m going to take it part, tonight I’ll shorten it and put it back together. Hopefully that won’t take long; it…

The best laid schemes of mice and men…

Well my grand plans of finishing Anne and working on all kinds of things over my 3 day weekend went bust. I started out strong on Thursday night, finishing my underskirt with the exception of a hook and eye at the waist. I also discovered the cause of the problem with my old hoopskirt and fixed it. (Basically, when I…

    Underskirt

Last night! Back to work on Anne! I finished getting the underskirt put together, got the front piece cut out and sewn in, and finished the interior edges. Tonight I’ve got to hem it, then pleat and finish the top edge. Then I can mark that off my list. Friday I’ll be all over the place working on different stuff.…

    post-weekend

Had a nice weekend at my grandparent’s. Shopped, ate, embroidered, napped, got rained on, fed a stray cat. I bought some decorative stuff for Anne but didn’t find trim I liked yet for the top. Bought some fabric, fabric paint, some new scissors, etc. I’ve decided what to do on the Anne skirt seams. I’m going to redo 3 of…

    Anne update for today

I’ve been having trouble with the seams on the skirt puckering. I sewed the skirt seams like I normally do satin and they looked – fine. Not fantastic, but very minimal puckering. Passable. I finished the interior seams same way as I did on the bodice and the puckering went up by about 50%. Now they don’t look so good.…

    Thoughts on a short year

Last year I only made 6 costumes. That’s the lowest amount since I started this hobby. Even the year we bought a house and we needed to save money I made more costumes (9). The only years lower are 2000 and 1999 – because I only made 1 each of those years. After realizing this and thinking about it, I…

    UGH

UGH! Flickr changed their layout AGAIN and now I can’t find everything I use. I hate flickr. Anyway. Didn’t get a lot done last night since the girls were over, but I did draw out my guide for my Donna embroidery. (Last weekend I mostly did testing different threads and beads). This is the back side, my guide for doing…

    More Anne stuff

I really dug in to try to finish the skirt last night, but finishing the interior seams took longer than I expected, so that’s what I did most of the night – they’re still not done, still finishing up a few places. I did cut the pieces for my underskirt, and with what was left over, played with the cape/train…

Just had a moment at work where I was trying to remember what year it was. 2014? That can’t be right. It can’t be 2014. Oh my God, it’s 2014.
