Britan – SunDowner
Made in 1998-2001
Other Appearances: N/A

This entry actually covers 3 variations on Britan.

My first version of Britan was from Halloween 1998. Originally I had wanted to be Tifa from FF7 for Halloween that year, but couldn’t figure out how to put it together. I had JUST started formulating my idea for my online comic SunDowner, and I thought it would be fun to put together a costume of one of the characters I was thinking up for Halloween. Space pirate-y. I used a pair of track pants I had (black with rainbow stripes down the side), boots I already, an old 80s shirt of my dad’s (it had the fold over front similar to a Han Solo shirt), a leather vest of my mom’s, and a Han Solo blaster.

I don’t have any photos of that original version – look this was back in the film days and it didn’t seem important enough to take a photo of this thrown together Halloween look LOL I put it back together for a few photos a couple of months later, which is where the photo on the right comes from. At that point I’d finally done my first issue of SunDowner, so when I took these photos, I added the blue bow made out of felt to be closer to my character design.

A few years later, at Animazement 2001, I did a “casual” Britan, using a pair of black jeans, the same black boots, a tanktop I had and the felt bow. Drew the symbol on with face paint. Cath did a “Casual Ocha” to go with me. These were just fun comfy costumes to wear to like, eat breakfast at the con and not be fully “in costume.”

Later in 2001 I put together an all new Britan costume, based on her Issue 6 outfit. I used the same boots, a pair of pants I already had (my Quistis pants), and I bought the sweater and altered it. Kept the same bow. I had intended to try to make the shoulder armor, but never got around to it.

As of 2025, I think the only parts of any of these costumes I still have are the shirt from the 1998 version (the vintage 80s one), the bow, and the brown pants from version 3. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to cobble any of the variations back together for a white backdrop shoot, so the handful of photos I have are all that remains.
