This was my first version of Belle’s village dress. It was intended to be worn at Dragon Con 2006; Chase was building his Beast costume and we wanted to do a masquerade skit where I could do a quick change off-stage – start in this costume and run off, pull it off and slip into my ballgown skirt (I’d already have the ballgown bodice on underneath the blue dress). However, we couldn’t figure out something for Chase (as Beast) to be doing on stage during that, so we shelved the idea. But I’d already mostly finished the dress, so I thought I’d still wear it at Dragon Con. I took it with me that year, but didn’t wear it – and I never wore it ever, because it just didn’t work as a con costume you’d see up close.

The dress is all cotton, and all one piece except the apron, which velcros on. The entire back of the costume is velcro, from neck to hem, to facilitate the quick change. The velcro just looked terrible in person. I tried to sell it for like, $10 for a few years, but no takers (can’t blame anybody). I finally just threw it away without ever wearing it. This pic to the left is the only picture I ever had of it.

I did keep the apron, though – it lived on to be the apron in my “real” 2007 version of this costume.
