Mandalorian – Star Wars (Original)

Made for: Dragoncon 2006

Background: I wanted to make a custom mandalorian to go with my husband’s mandalorian.

Journal Entries: Read more at my Mando tag

Patterns Used: Simplicity 4433 (probably)

Helmet: Bought the helmet online. My husband repainted & weathered it, and added lights to the inside visor.

Pants/Shirt: I started with making a shirt and pants out of grey stretch material, probably using the pattern listed above as a starting point. I made the sleeves extra long, and made finger loops to keep them in place, and did some black and red stitching on them. On the arm I heat-transferred a bantha skull. For the pants, I made long strips of black, with red straps of suede sewn on, and then sewed that onto the pants.

Vest: The vest was the part that took the longest though – I started out with a pattern for the basic shape (no clue what pattern it was!), and altered it to work with my design. I added strips of black pleather around the bottom of it, and sleeve caps. The front red straps were made the same way as the ones for the pants, and sewn on. Then a ton of weathering all over everything.

Capes: The capes were the most fun to make – there are three, one of a black torn up material, the rest of the red suede from the straps, which I weathered and burned, and another black suede, again weathered. All of them are sewn together and held together with a button on the back of the vest. They’re my fav part of the costume.

Accessories/Armor: The belt was a belt I found at the hardware store, repainted and with some greeblies added. Chase added the holster and made the belt buckle for me. He also made the armor out of plastic, and we painted it. They velcro on. The boots I bought online and repainted, and my knee pieces were Chases’ original mando ones that he gave to me. My gauntlets were shinguards repainted. My gun is one of my favourite pieces, it started out as an airsoft gun, which we stripped and added more pieces to, and Chase made the large blade out of plastic and attached it to the gun.

History: I’d love to revisit this costume and do some more work on it, but it was fun to wear.
