Ocha – SunDowner

Made for: Dragoncon 2002

Background: Ocha was one of the characters from my original comic I self-published in 2002 – I thought re-creating this costume in real life would be a fun challenge.

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 7162

Dress/Vest:

The dress I made using a pattern, altering it for the sleeve shape, collar and open sides. The vest I made freehand, and then permanently attached it to the dress.

Accessories:

The leggings I already had – I cut them off at the knee and used the extra to make the armbands. I used platform boots as the base for the boot covers, the boot covers I made of white vinyl with yellow ribbon and buttons… I had to add cardboard to the inside of them to make them keep their shape as I walked, because otherwise they wrinkled too much. The tail I made of plastic tubing, covered in green fabric, with leftover wig hair making the tuft of hair and the end. It ties around my waist underneath the dress.

Wig:

The wig I bought, cut and styled using clear elmer’s glue. The ears I made of foam and covered in fur, which I dyed green. I wired them into the wig.

Make-up:

I used a liquid latex and mehron mix for the makeup – it didn’t work well! I switched to Ben Nye after this experience. Never again.

History:

I only wore this once, and for a couple of hours. Whenever I take new photos of my Ame-Comi Poison Ivy (when I’m painted green!) I’ll take new photos of this.
