Hermione Granger – Harry Potter

Made for: Sorcerer’s Stone Opening Night

Background: I really wanted to build a Gryffindor costume, based on the few images that were out before the movie was released, so I could wear it to the premiere.

Patterns Used:
Either Simplicity 9887 or Simplicity 5840

Cloak:

I used a pattern to make the cloak – it was pretty straight forward. Mine didn’t originally have a hood but I added a faux hood later on down the road. I made it out of black cotton.

Uniform:

The sweater I already had – I added the yellow and red stripes with ribbons around the neck. The skirt I bought on ebay and dyed to be a darker grey.

Accessories:

I used red and yellow striped cotton to make the tie, because at the time no one was selling ties yet. I bought the scarf a couple of years later… but I’ve since lost it 🙁 The wand I bought from Alivan’s. When I originally made this, there were no good pictures of the patch – and no one was selling patches at the time. So I made my own, until I was able to replace it with a nice embroidered one later on.

History:

A lot of things were “off” about my original costume, since I didn’t have much to go on – so it had a lot of upgrades over the years. I finally replaced it with a PoA style uniform in 2004. I sold the sweater and tie a few years later.

As of 2025 I no longer support this author and have no desire to be associated with this book/movie series anymore. I am leaving my pages about my costumes from this series up just for the record, but I will no longer be posting about or amplifying this series/author in any way.
