Hermione Granger – Harry Potter

Made for: Sorcerer’s Stone Opening Night

Background: I really wanted to build a Gryffindor costume, based on the few images that were out before the movie was released, so I could wear it to the premiere.

Patterns Used: Either Simplicity 9887 or Simplicity 5840

Cloak: I used a pattern to make the cloak – it was pretty straight forward. Mine didn’t originally have a hood but I added a faux hood later on down the road.

Uniform: The sweater I already had – I added the yellow and red stripes with ribbons around the neck. The skirt I bought on ebay and dyed to be a darker grey.

Accessories: I used red and yellow striped cotton to make the tie. At one time I had a gorgeous scarf but I’ve since lost it 🙁 The wand I bought from Alivan’s. When I originally made this, there were no good pictures of the patch – and no one was selling patches at the time. So I made my own, until I was able to replace it with a nice one later on.

History: A lot of things were “off” about my original costume, since I didn’t have much to go on – so it had a lot of upgrades over the years. I finally replaced it with a PoA style uniform in 2004.
