Time Lords – Doctor Who
Made for: DragonCon 2012
Background: My friend Ash and I had been talking about doing Time Lords – my husband and our friend Derek decided to join in, too, so had an awesome group of four!

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 5840 (basis for robes – altered), Simplicity 4213
Robes:
I had to make four of these robes and I never want to see red velvet again! I used the same pattern I use for making Hogwarts robes as a base (a generic robe/cape pattern), and we settled on an affordable red stretch velvet from Joann’s that everyone could order, to make use of their coupons. I lined the front panels with velvet, too, and made my own pattern for the tiered sleeves. The sleeves were stabilized and lined – many thanks to Ash and Chase for ironing on stabilizer!
Robe Collar/Belt:
We used a darker red cotton velvet for the upper collar piece, and the belts, both of which I created patterns for. It was also a pain to work with, but I was happy with the way they look. The collars close with a hook and eye, and the robes also stay in place with a hook and eye on the belt. We picked up a pretty gold trim at Joann’s and put that on the belt, as well.
UnderRobes:
For the inner robes I used a tunic/biblical robe pattern. We used a taffeta we found on clearance for the front panel, and the back panel is red cotton in an attempt to keep the costume a tiny bit cooler. I also added pockets to the inner robe, for anyone who wanted them.
Time Lord Collars:
The collars are fiberglass, built by Chase and Derek around a foam form. They were painted and weathered, and we each picked a different trim for ours, as we couldn’t get enough of one kind.
Accessories:
We all decided to wear Converse with them, and all picked up a Time Lord psychic container from Thinkgeek to carry.
History: Loved getting to do these with my friends. Need to find another opportunity to wear them together!
