Katie Bell – Harry Potter (Gryffindor Quidditch Uniform)

Made for: Halloween 2003

Background: I loved the look of the movie-verse Quidditch uniforms!

Related Costumes: Hermione 2004, Hermione 2001

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 5840

Cloak:

The cloak was made using a robe/cloak pattern, shortening the sleeves and adding the eyelets/leather lacing to the front. I used red cotton for the outer and yellow cotton for the lining. I got the patch on ebay. The leather for the closure I got at Hobby Lobby.

Guards:

The arm and leg guards I made last minute out of vinyl, cotton (for the lining) and batting (interior), with quilted seams – they velcro on. I always wanted to remake them but never did.

Sweater:

The sweater was an adventure in commissioning. I don’t know how to knit, and at the time there was no one selling these sweaters, so I found someone local to knit it for me. This was early in 2003. This costume was supposed to be for A-Kon in June originally. Then got pushed back to Anime Expo in July. Then to Dragoncon in September. The person kept saying it wasn’t done yet. Getting in time for at least Halloween still required some teeth-pulling. And then when I met her to pick it up, she said “…you’re a lot bigger than I remember.” So it was too small. Thankfully the sleeves, which only came mid-way down my forearms, were covered up by the arm guard gauntlets. Nothing I could do about the too short hem on the torso though.

Accessories: I had the pants and shoes already. The broom I bought at Alivan’s.

History:

I wore this for Halloween and one photoshoot before I lost (LOST!) the robe (I think it got loaned to someone and didn’t come back – that’s why I don’t loan costumes). I sold the sweater and accessories in 2013, since they were just taking up space at that point.
