Made for: Halloween 2010
Background: I’d gotten a new wig for my Sleeping Beauty costume, and decided to get double use out of it by also making Briar Rose š

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 5006 for the bodice (altered)
Wig:
The wig is a cosworx Rose wig I bought the year before and hadn’t messed with since – I added some extra wefts for thickness, curled it (though the curls didn’t stay very well), and styled the bangs.
Blouse:
I was really happy with the fabric I found for the shirt, a thin grey material – I didn’t use a pattern, just used a t-shirt to get a basic shape and size for cutting. I cut the sleeves as big wide rectangles and gathered them around a piece of elastic at the end. I do need to take it up a little through the torso before I wear it again, it was a little too large. The collar is actually an undershirt I wear under the blouse, I took an existing shirt and added a large matte satin collar to it, and I just put that on before the blouse and pull the collar through.
Bodice:
The bodice I made using the Simplicity pattern above, edited for the shape and creating the notch in the front. It’s black cotton lining, canvas interior, spiral steeling boning, black suede outer layer, with a leather busk. I added the lace-up detail in front and it laces up the back with grommets. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Skirt:
I looked forever for fabric I liked for the skirt – I had to settle for grey suede, which I hadn’t wanted to use again after using suede for the bodice, but it was all I could find that I liked. I made the skirt without a pattern, I think it was something six panels, and attached to a waistband. I cut up one of my old petticoats to fit underneath it.
Accessories:
The shawl is the same kind of silk gauze I used for my Alyss collar fabric, I really loved it for Alyss so I wanted to use it again. It’s literally just an unhemmed piece of yardage, I didn’t do anything to it besides dyeing it. I’d like to dye it again and get it a little darker. Found the basket at goodwill, and the headband at Hobby Lobby. The shoes are my Belle shoes.
History:
I haven’t worn this since Halloween 2010! Need to find a reason to wear it again š In recent years I have had it out for tiktok videos, but not like, wearing it out anywhere. Maybe it needs another Halloween outing.
