Wasp – Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

Made for: Dragoncon 2012

Background: I put this together in a couple of days for Dragoncon; I had intended to wait til I was done with everything else before I started on this, but on one of my days off I decided to go ahead and make it 🙂

Dress:

First things first, the costume was made almost entirely out of scrap fabric leftover from other projects, which was great! I love getting to use up all the scraps! I started out by making a black cotton bodice, and then built the spandex dress over the top. I made a pattern for the center yellow zigzag and stitched it on top, and then attached the skirt to the bottom of it all. For the hem of the skirt, I made a channel, and I added a short piece of hooping into the bottom to keep it flared out. There’s an opening at the back where I can remove the hooping for easier packing.

Headphones/Wig:

I bought the wig on ebay and styled it (literally laid it on the floor and sprayed it with Got2b so the sides would flare out), and bought a pair of headphones on amazon, took them apart and took the guts out, and repainted them, and added the antenna (yellow pieces of plastic).

Accessories:

The rest of the costume was mostly pieces I already had – the tights were from a project I never got to, the boots and gloves were from Jean Grey!

Wings:

I didn’t have time to make wings for Dragoncon, but I did finish them up for GMX. My husband helped me make the wireform and we covered it in yellow cellophane. They attach by a U-shaped piece that slips down the back of the bodice.

History:

This was a fun little project – though it’s easier to wear without the wings 🙂
