Ms Marvel – Avengers (Classic Red/Moonstone)

Background: I loved my previous Ms Marvel costume so much, I really wanted to do her original costume, too.

Leotard:

This was almost all leftover material and reused parts – the only thing I needed to buy was a litttle more red spandex, and that’s just because I wanted the scarf to be stupid long! Yay cheap costumes!

I altered my fav leotard pattern for this – traced the basic pieces out onto newsprint and cut it apart to create pattern pieces with the yoke/brief seams. I used a red spandex, and black matte spandex for the collar and “briefs” section. My husband very kindly cut out the gold design (metallic spandex) for me – I handsewed it in place, then went back over it with the machine. Then I sewed the front and back pieces together. The neck closes with a hook eye. The scarf piece is just a long tube of red spandex. I decided to go with the really long version since I liked the drama of it. I lightly stitched it in place at the neckline.

Everything else is leftover from my 2010 Ms Marvel – the boots, gloves, mask and wig!

History:

I actually think I like this one more than the black/Warbird version. 🙂
