Emma Frost (The White Queen) – X-Men

Made for: Dragoncon 2011/Dragoncon 2012

Background: I really, really, really wanted to make her furry cape. I didn’t really want to do her pants outfit, or the corset outfit. I decided to do my own take and make a mini dress instead. The next year, in 2012, I did the more classic corset/Hellfire Club variation.

Dress:

So as I said above, I wanted to do an Emma costume but I didn’t want to do the traditional corset Hellfire Club look. I thought a sort of mini-dress would be a really cute alternative, especially with the boots.

So I used my fav leotard pattern for the mini-dress, altering it for the neckline shape, and adding a waist seam where I could add the mini-skirt, which was just too layers of the white spandex. Speaking of the white spandex, even two layers was a little see-through, so I ended up lining everything with skintone spandex as well – this dress is heavy duty!!

Cape:

The cape was made of a matte stretch satin, using a pattern for the basic shape. For the furry collar part, I bought some white faux fur, cut two big sort-of U shaped pieces, and sewed them together, leaving it open where the neck would be, then stuffed the inside with some batting and sewed it together, and hand-sewed it to the cape. I was originally going to put a chain closure on it, but didn’t like how it looked, so instead attached it to the dress with a hook and eye. I need to go back and revisit this closure one of these days, I think just some straps that go under the arms would work better instead of relying on the dress to keep it in place.

Accessories:

The boots I made just like my Ms Marvel boots and attached them to tights, using DJSpider’s tutorial over at the SCF. A little more tricky here since I had to use so many layers! The gloves I bought, the wig I had. I made the collar piece out of white spandex, and the belt out of silver belting material, and a painted wooden medallion.

Corset Version:

For Dragoncon 2012, I wore this costume again, but THIS time I was feeling the Hellfire Club/classic corset version. I had a nice white corset I’d never used, and I bought a pair of white swimsuit bottoms, altered them (added more to the top so there wouldn’t be any gap between the bottom of the corset and the top of the bottoms), and wore all the same accessories.

History:
I’ve worn the minidress version once, and the corset version once. I updated the corset version last year for Dragoncon and took it with me, but never wore it. I’ll have to do a new photoshoot with the corset version soon.
