Urd – Ah! My Goddess (Movie Style)
Made for: Otakon 2002
Background: My two friends and were going to do Belldandy, Skuld and Urd for Otakon – our Belldandy ended up not being able to come, but we still did Urd and Skuld.

The hardest part about this was the lack of references at the time. I had just one full length photo out of the movie’s dvd materials to go by!
Patterns Used: Butterick 4301
Dress: I decided to go with this purple satin for the dress, and used an evening dress pattern for it, adding the plunging neckline, the train in the back, and the collar. The hardest part about this was the deep cut in the front – I never actually tried this on completely before the convention, so I’m lucky everything worked. The yellow zig-zags were done with yellow ribbon, the tassles I bought, dyed and added the beads to, and then sewed on.
The black collar was made of black suede, and I attached the “capes” to this – one layer of sparkly organza and another of some lightweight pink satin.. I added skin-tone straps to the top to help keep it up, since the capes got heavy.
Gloves/Boots: The gloves/gauntlets I made… purple satin with black suede toppers. The boots I bought on ebay, and added the purple cuff to the top of one of them, the yellow zig-zags to both and made the black suede boot cover for the other one.
Jewelry: The original necklace I made of ribbon, and the bracelets I made of friendly plastic. I lost the bracelets and necklace later on and remade them out of yellow vinyl and blue beads.
Wig: The wig was a funny story. The first one I bought had a strange yellow tint to it, almost like it was supposed to glow in the dark (though it didn’t). So I decided to buy a second one. That one the seller disappeared and never sent the wig, and I wasn’t able to get my money back. The third wig was the charm, I guess – that’s the one I ended up using. I styled the front so it had a little lift to it, but that’s it.
History: I rewore this a handful of times before making my Hild costume in 2004 – my Hild costume used the wig for this, so I’ve never gotten to wear it again. I plan on taking some photos of Hild sometime soon and dismantling the wig so I can have photos of Urd and Amalthea with their original wigs.
