Jacket:

I was, for some reason, dead-set on having a stretch pleather/vinyl for the jacket, skirt and hat – I had never worked with it and didn’t realize what a pain it would be. Everywhere this fabric had to go through the sewing machine I had to use wash-away stabilizer, and the stabilizer took FOREVER to get off! I used a heavily altered structured jacket pattern for the jacket, lined it in a lightweight navy blue lining fabric, and all the designs on it I made out yellow and black vinyl with orange cotton and appliqued them onto the jacket.

Shirt/Skirt/Hat:

The black shirt I made out of a black knit, without a pattern. The skirt was made using a miniskirt pattern and I added the black stripe.

Accessories:

The necklace I bought on ebay. I also bought the wig on ebay – I was originally going to go with black, but I found this dark purple wig and thought it would be neat. The belt I made of black vinyl (velcros closed) and glued two mirrors to the front to create the “buckle”. The shoes I found at the goodwill store. The hat was made out of the vinyl and was a pain and hard to keep on my head.

History:

I wore this a handful of times and always loved it. In 2016 when I was reorganizing my costume closet, I realized the pleather of this costume was starting to deteriorate. So before it could get any worse, we quickly did a white backdrop photoshoot with it. The white backdrop photos are lightly retouched to cover up any of the little spots the pleather is failing and showing the white backing of the fabric. For some reason it’s worse on the skirt, I think because the skirt was folded onto itself. Below in the progress photos you’ll see some pics of the skirt in 2017 and how much worse it had gotten! I do still have the costume, it’s carefully folded up in tissue paper in an attempt to preserve it, but it is totally unwearable now. I did make a new Misato costume in 2019 to replace it.
