Honda Tohru – Fruits Basket

Made for: Katsucon 2004

Background: Thought this would be fun and simple to put together.

Journal Entries: Read more at my Tohru tag

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 7162 for the top – possibly.

Uniform:

The skirt I bought on ebay, and then matched my fabric (navy blue cotton) for the top to it. I used a shirt pattern for the top (pretty straight forward. I THINK it was the one above, only one in my pattern index that looks like it could be it…), and lined it in the white trim at the bottom. It buttons closed. The collar I made using my Jupiter collar as a pattern, using matte white satin, and sewed the blue ribbons on – it is not attached to the top and the center part of the collar is white stretch knit so it has some give when pulling it on over the head. The cuffs I made out of the same white matte satin, and sewed onto the jacket sleeves.

Accessories:

The shoes and socks I had – they’re not accurate, but I was trying to reuse things. I made the hair ribbons out of yellow satin ribbon glued to barrettes.

I also had intended to get double use out of this costume and reuse the top for an Arisa Uotani uniform — my grandmother had given me the longer pleated navy blue skirt that matched my topic perfectly. So I had it all ready to go, I just never got the wig or did anything else with it. This was kind of the tail-end of my anime/gaming era of costuming so that’s probably why.

History:

A fairly simple costume – easy & fun to wear. Had a great time getting pics with other Fruits Basket characters šŸ™‚ I sold it (along with the longer skirt) in 2013.
