Yay Floors!

The installer was at the house all day yesterday and got the hallway nearly done, the kitchen and living room nearly done! Here's the hallway around noon yesterday. He still has to go back and do a small strip along the left side of the wall, the area in front of bedroom door and the entryway. Then the quarter round everywhere. Here's the living room. It looks really dark in ...

Curating

I like putting things in order. I like organizing my DVDs but theme and then by colour. This isn't like some people, "teehee I like things in order I'm so OCD" -- I do have some obsessive-compulsive tendencies, which I won't go into! I don't consider organizing like this part of that - I call it "curating." And that's what you see here at my website. It's constant curating. I ...

Busy weekend

So this weekend was crazy. As I mentioned last week, we were prepping the house for new floors! Yay! The flooring came in Friday and dad came over to help us get it in the house. It needed to sit inside our house for a couple of days to acclimate. We had already pulled up the carpet in the hallway, so that's where we put the majority of the boxes. ...

Getting the house ready + sewing

This week through Sunday we are getting the house ready for the new floor! I started packing up stuff on shelves last night, and Chase started experimenting with pulling up the carpet in the hallway. I took some before pictures (even though I already took down a lot of knick-knacks): The flooring will be here on Thursday, and has to acclimate to our house, so Chase wants to get the ...

More sewing

I did a bit of sewing on Queen Aelsa Saturday night. After cutting the bodice sections of white stretch knit, I realized the colours were going to look too different once I had the chiffon overlay on. So I managed to scrounge enough of the silver velvet to cut most of the bodice pieces out of it - couldn't manage the back section, but that will be hidden by hair. ...

a little mystery

I'm posting a lot today. I was digging through old hard-drives trying to find some missing pictures last night when I came across some pics of a project that did not get finished. I'm sharing it today with Chase's permission. Back in 2012 when I was making my newer Belle ballgown, you can find mentions and photos of the new Beast costume Chase was making to match. I think the last ...

Making Mistakes

This isn't really an FAQ Friday today, but just some fun memories & stories I wanted to share. So earlier this week, I read this really great article, "15 Cosplay Mistakes You Will Inevitably Make" by Jenbae. Go read it, it's great. As I was reading it, I was checking off things in my mind where I'd made that mistake. I thought it would be fun to make my personal responses ...

I made a thing

(Not the bra. That's just there because my new dressform is shy.) I made a kinda hippie looking silver velvet skirt. Well I got it cut out and pinned together anyway. It's actually a white velvet with some silver flecking on the top. It's pretty in person. Not that it matters - this is only an under-dress. I only had enough of this silver-y satin for the skirt portion. The ...

FAQ Friday: The Walk of Shame

Today I want to talk about something that happened to me at MidSouthCon, and how to HOPEFULLY avoid it. I'm talking about the Walk of Shame. No, not the "morning after" kind, though I guess that happens at cons pretty regularly, too. I'm talking about when a part of your costume either fails, or becomes so uncomfortable that you have to remove it and walk back to your room/car ...

FAQ Friday: Amidala’s Parade Dress Hair

Today I have a tutorial to post! I'm planning on wearing my Queen Amidala parade dress soon, and it's been YEARS since I wore it (late 2005 was the last time I wore it with long hair; 2010 with short hair), so I figured I needed to practice the hair since it's been a while. Back in 2005, my hairstylist helped me come up with the way to do this with my own ...
