haul out the holly

Hey look I’m posting on time this week! Which is good because I won’t be posting on time next week, it’s CHRIMAS.

Well first lets post the new photoshoot results.

The Scarlet Witch disneybound dress!

I did add the sleeves just before the shoot. I wanted to do that as soon as we got back from the cruise, but as usual I put it off til the very last minute. At least I remembered! Only thing is with the sleeves on now the sides of the red collar part are sticking up funny over the shoulder. I may try to tack them down if I decide to wear it to Disney.

And the Star Wars knit set.

I’ve still got to get the Stitch and Marvel photos uploaded. I’ll do that soon. The Scarlet Witch disneybound page here is updated, but I want to wait until I get the other knit set pics up before I update those, since they all share a page.

I’m also not going to post my 2024 costume wrap-up post until later next week, which is a little late for me, but I am still working on a few things I’ll have done this weekend that I want to include on it.

More photoshoots coming soon – I spent yesterday getting out the rest of the stuff I want to shoot. I actually got out FOUR costumes from 2002 I want to do LOL I’m calling it the “I’m Feelin 22” set:

1. She-Ra – the gold lame I used for all of the gold parts has faded so badly! It all looks silver now! I may have to pump up the saturation to make it look ok in the photos. And BOY was there a lot of stuff just glued on. The boot covers are entirely glued and unhemmed. Ironing everything was an adventure – in some case it was actually nice it melted the old glue a little, I was able to pull up the some of the symbol on the front of the dress and re-glue it, because they’d all gotten a little stretched out and wrinkled over the years. Also, the little gold “wings” on the top neckline of the dress have apparently been safety pinned onto the dress since 2002. I removed them for the first time ever yesterday so I could iron them because they had some really bad set in wrinkles. My goal with getting these ready for shooting is not to UPGRADE them – I want to document them as close to original as possible – but in this case I didn’t have the heart to safety pin these pieces back on, so I sewed them. I will NOT be fixing the boot covers, as much as I’d love to rip them apart, peel the glue off, sew them up properly and hem them – I want to have my first “real” boot covers documented as they originally were LMAO

2. Ling Xiaoyu – this was the first one I thought of when I decided to go way back, because I have NO decent photos of it. I have one that’s like 500px tall. Not a lot to do here, she ironed up nice. I am going to continue using my own hair tucked up for the pigtails like I did when I originally wore it, I did think about digging up some clip on pigtails I have, but again, we’re preserving, not upgrading…

3. Arwen Chase dress – another on I don’t really have good photos of. And I didn’t think I could fit in it at all anymore. But I got it out out of curiosity and… I can get into it. (screaming face emoji). I’m so excited to shoot this one! This is one where I’m having a conflict though — originally, I used my own hair plus a hairpiece for this that was pre-braided. I don’t have that hairpiece anymore. I also don’t really have a wig that works. Closest is Rogue as Ms Marvel if I take the white stripe out of it. I may do that, because I know I can’t braid my own hair and Chase can’t either LOL I don’t really feel like it’s an upgrade, more like a lateral move.

4. Rally Vincent – ok I do have some decent pics of this from when I rewore it at Akon in 2005, but it’s one of my old favs and I want it documented on the backdrop. As stoked as I was that I could still fit in Arwen, Rally is another story – can’t get the skit zipped up and the little button at the top is about a full inch away from being able to be closed. BUT – it’ll be under the blazer so nobody will know if it’s not zipped. I’ll just pin a piece of elastic at the waistband to keep it on right. Costume is already to go – I need to dig up a pair of tights.

I do still have the Rally wig of course, hoping it looks ok when I get it out LOL I’m scared to mess with it before the shoot. I mean it’s glued so the front spikes aren’t going anywhere. And I do still have my original She-Ra wig too, I may give it a bath before the shoot, it’s got that over hair-sprayed feel to it. Of course it is a nearly 24 year old wig soooo.

We didn’t shoot this weekend because it took me all morning to get all of those old costumes cleaned up, and then I cleaned up my sewing room, and then I vacuumed the rest up the upstairs, cleaned up my work office and reorganized my closet in there too.

Friday I had a doctor’s appointment that I was SOOO anxious about. I think it went well except my blood pressure and they’ve put me on something again. Hopefully it doesn’t kick my ass like all the other ones they’ve tried over the years. This one is a newer generation so fingers crossed. I took it for the first time last night and I was hot with a headache all night, but that could’ve just been because it’s 60 degrees and muggy here. I have another appointment thursday for an ultrasound to keep the ball rolling. Fingers crossed, again. It’s a lot on my brain right now.

Saturday was a ton of Christmas shopping. Nothing really notable to say about that.

I already talked about most of Sunday, but Sunday night we went to have a Christmas dinner with my parents. I decided to wear my Bespin Leia dress without the shawl… without the shawl and with a poinsettia pinned in my hair it’s rather Christmas-y.

I wanted to wear my big green vintage coat with the fur collar with it, but it was warm enough out no jacket was needed.

I DID have to fix some stuff on this. One of the sleeve seams had shredded open so I had to rehem it tighter to move past the damaged area. The other sleeve was on the verge of doing the same. That’s disappointing. I also opened up the inside and redid the ends of the bust darts. Bust darts just never sit right on me but they look slightly better than they did before.

My parents got me this Haunted Mansion organ player ornament! It lights up, so cool.

That’s all for this week, and I guess for the next 2 weeks. I’ll try to post 12/26 otherwise I’ll forget everything.
