Well hi here we are again with the increasingly regular mid-week update.
So Monday the mobile vet never called us, which was disappointing. And by Monday night Luna hadn’t peed in her litter box at all during the day so we knew there was some kind of blockage going on and we couldn’t wait on this mobile vet, so Tuesday morning we got an appointment with a local vet. (She was also pissed at me pretty much all evening Monday so I stayed away from her to not stress her out more)
We got Indy’s old big plastic crate out, cleaned up and some towels in it… I expected a fight to get her in there, but Chase scooped her right up and put her in, thank goodness.
And Chase said she was really good at the vet, too. Actually pretty chill, she just hid in her blankets. Vet had 3 theories with the most common one being a UTI, so we agreed to start with that and go from there. So they took her back to try to get a urine sample and that’s when they discovered the actual problem.
Well, as Chase later corrected me – it’s actually BLADDER stones, not kidney stones. But still. The vet showed Chase a photo of the MRI they did (I think it was an MRI?) and they were very clear.
So good news – we know now exactly what is causing the problem and it’s fixable
The bad news – it means surgery, an expensive surgery.
So we got her scheduled for surgery today, brought her home for the night (with pain meds!), and we scrambled to gather up enough money in one night to cover it. We had about half in savings, so I pulled out everything I had tucked away for my costume budget for the year, and my parents loaned us some money. I put up a little fundraiser on my IG and was blown away by the generous donations from friends and family. It literally made me cry. We got it all pulled together only thanks to everybody helping.
So she went in at 7 this morning. Surgery was at 11. They said it would take an hour – hour and a half. But didn’t hear anything til about 1. Vet said they removed TEN stones from her bladder! Poor baby! He said that 2 of them were small enough she MAY have passed them, but the others were huge. He apparently put them in a vial fur us to… keep I guess LMAO.
We can pick her up at 5. We’ll get some more info on taking care of her the next couple of weeks and I’m sure info on what to do to prevent this — but of course we’ve already been googling. The first thing we’re doing is ordering a pet water fountain to help her drink more water – we know she prefers very fresh water so this should help with that. Also looking at supplements.
So yeah that’s the update. I’m really worried that we’re going to have to leave her home alone for an extended period of time on Sunday but mom said she’ll come check on her. And we think we’ll set her up in the laundry room for the day – not a lot of places for her to try to jump to, her litter box is there, and it’s easy to close off from the rest of the house. Set up the pet cam to keep an eye on her.
So while I’m here here’s a Padme update.
I finished the embroidery on the front panel! I got new front panels cut and prepared to start embroidering them tonight.
Overall looking at it I’m happy with it though it is slightly too small. OH WELL. It’s just gonna be that way. It’s not enough of a difference to start over.
The front panel pinned on above is cut extra large – the chalk line drawn on is the actual front edge. Cut them larger so they’d fit on the embroidery hoop without basting on an extension.
