Yes I’m posting on a Friday, the world has gone mad.
Nah we’re just in THREAT LEVEL DRAGONCON so I thought I’d do an extra update.
First, Ash and I had a good time in Nashville.
Today’s post title thanks to this wonderful album cover we saw at Great Escape.
We had time to run around a bit before the show, went to Lush, went to the Pickers store, ate dinner at ML Rose and then still had time to kill before the doors opened so we went to Great Escape.
The only pic I took at the show, right before they said to turn your phones off, no photos, no videos.
But the Katya show was great, very funny.
Incredibly creepy cowboy statue in the lobby of our hotel. Imagine this thing stalking you down a dark hallway.
We stayed at the Millennium Maxwell House which I thought sounded so familiar but looking at pics online didn’t look familiar. As soon as we walked in I was like OOOOH it was where GMX 2011 was. They’d remodeled the lobby so in pics it didn’t look the same but once I was in the space, it was recognizable. I remembered those awful elevators. Although it was still being renovated so the elevators were not in service, instead we had to use the service elevator which they’d tried to “pretty up” but it just made them look like scary Silent Hill elevators. Yikes.
We had breakfast at Biscuit Love before heading home.
Yum.
Got home, went and picked up Chase and then Ash met us at Nana’s house and we swam for a bit. Chase has been feeling a lot better this week, still not 100% but if last week was a 9 on the pain scale seems like this week is more like a 4 or 5. That being said, he talked to the nurse at the clinic Wednesday – he’s been in contact with her the whole 2 weeks and she’s sent him in extra refills and such. Unfortunately she wasn’t in the office when he went back in Monday and they just gave him some more pain pills, told him to take another week off work, and sent him home. Which was frustrating. So he called to check in with the nurse Wednesday and she was like, this recovery is taking longer than it should (which I expected them to say on MONDAY!) and managed to get his MRI moved up from mid-next week to yestereday. So he went to that yesterday (and ouch it was expensive for us) and is supposed to get his results today. Hope it’s something easy to deal with.
Anyway! Of course the past 3 nights have been more work and I’ve hardly taken any photos because I’m in “get it done now” mode. But I finished up the last bits on Hera, sewing wise – I still have to finish the jewelry but waiting on some jewelry glue I ordered to get here. Decided I didn’t need to the extra snap on the jacket, finished up the new gloves, cleaned up the fit of the boots a bit, and added hook and eyes at the pants/top of boots to keep them in place. I also spray painted all the vinyl pieces with floral spray paint to get their blues a bit more saturated.
I practiced walking in the whole costume a bit one night and I was FEELING IT. I love how it looks. My feet and ankles are going to hate me but oh well. I wanted to take some walking video – we have a great catwalk coming out of my sewing room and over the living room – but I couldn’t find my pivo to set up to record it. So I have no photos or video of any of this.
I ended up messing around with the shape of the bump in my Lake wig – undid the whole thing, cut the bottom half of the bump off and made a new one.
Made it a bit shorter and made the center a bit smaller. I think it’s still jutting out a bit too far at the bottom but at this point I’m leaving it. I got all the hair back over and the underbands back on. But I didn’t take a photo of anything of that.
I started playing around with sculpting the headbands but Chase has decided he wants to figure out how to 3d model them and print them, so he’s been trying to do that.
Good news is the rest of my fabric for my trim came a day earlier than projected! YAY!!
Got 3 more yards of the trim made and pressed. Last night I got it attached at the end and started getting it all sewn on. I got about 1/3 of it fully sewn on. Started on the next third and messed it up, had to sit and unpick it for a half hour. Got it repinned on and ready to be sewn on again tonight so I’m hoping to be done with the trim by mid-day Saturday and maybe be able to dye it Saturday evening?! If not then Sunday morning. Hoping Chase is feel well enough he can help me hold up the excess.
So here’s everything that’s left:
Bev:
Finish tricorder (got the stickers for it yesterday)
Hera:
Make earrings
Finish circlet
Padme:
Finish attaching trim
Dye dress
Get outer and inner dresses sewn together
Finish jewelry pieces for the dress
Cast necklace, paint
Paint armbands
Finish headbands however we’re making them
Attach headbands
Finish styling wig
Jedi Leia:
Glue button cover back on belt
Carrie:
Dye wig
Crait Leia:
Sew on other sleeve
Finish styling wig
And then… PACK!
Tonight we have my cousins’ wedding reception to go to but otherwise the weekend is totally open and I’m hoping I can get a LOT of this done especially the smaller stuff.
Adding one more thing to my dragoncon schedule – I’d previously looked for a Star Trek photoshoot in the group photoshoot spreadsheet but hadn’t seen anything. Found it yesterday! Hoping to be at the 1pm Star Trek shoot Sunday at the Hilton steps. It’ll be a bit tight after being in Padme at 10 for the Padme shoot but I figure as long as I leave the Padme shoot by 11:30-noon and get on upstairs, Bev isn’t hard to get into so that should be plenty of time.
So an updated schedule with some stabs of what I might wear other times I haven’t previously listed:
Thursday afternoon/evening: Crait Leia
Thursday night: Carrie
Friday morning/early afternoon: Jedi Leia
Friday late afternoon/evening: Hera
Friday late night: Dr Crusher
Saturday morning: Donna Noble
Saturday afternoon: Padme
Saturday night: Hera
Sunday morning: Padme
Sunday afternoon: Dr Crusher
Sunday evening: Jedi Leia
Sunday night: Carrie
Monday: Lazy Ariel
Edit:
Chase heard back from he dr, he has a bulging disc pressing on a nerve. He’s going to be getting a shot (hopefully today) and PT.
