it’s dooooooone

So I got home yesterday and instead of jumping into the last little bit of embroidery I needed to do, I decided I was mentally ready to dye my shoes and lining.

Shoes were first and took to the dye beautifully:

After they sat and dried for a while, I put them back in again during round 3 of dyeing the lining and got them a little bit darker:

They could go a little darker but I think I’m just going to leave them at this point, I’m happy enough.

The lining was an adventure, I started out with a mix of “Terracotta” from Dharma and some regular RIT Scarlet, and a drop of Dark Brown. It looked pretty good, but I wanted a little bit more of an orange tone, so I put it back in with some orange RIT I had in my stash. Then I hung it outside to dry. (Why couldn’t I have done this on a nice day? Not a day when it’s 45 degrees out)

It dried pretty quickly though and I checked it, and it dried a lot lighter than I expected. So right before dinner I threw it into what was left of my scarlet RIT. And hung that up to dry.

But after that dried I decided it still wasn’t vibrant enough and needed to go darker still, so this time I decided I’m just going to go for it. I was out of Scarlet at this point so I used my Dharma Cardinal Red and half a box of RIT Cocoa Brown.

Scary!!

I soaked that for about a half hour and then put it out to dry. I got it in right before I went to bed and actually had like a gleeful, hands-clapping moment when I compared it to my tunic/pants fabric:

They match REALLY well which is all I could hope for.

Oh and I didn’t bother with gloves because I didn’t think I’d have my hands in the dye that much but I still look like I’ve had a terrible accident:

I also decided to jump into making the mock-up for the tunic:

This’ll be my lining once I cut my actual fabric.

And then I finally sat down and spent about a half hour doing the last little bit of the embroidery. It is totally done now.

I pinned just the front panel on over some of the lining over the mockup:

Tonight I’m going to bust out a mock-up of the collar piece. Tomorrow I have no plans and I’m going to work alllll day.
