Oh yeah! Hi! I’m back. Here’s what I did this weekend.
Thursday:
-Left the house at 7.
-Ate dinner at McAllister’s in Cape Gireaudo (sp? no clue.)
-Got stuck in traffic in St Louis
-Got lost in Springfield looking for our hotel
-Checked into our hotel at 2 AM (technically friday, of course)
Friday:
-Slept too late, alarm didn’t go off.
-Ate breakfast at Walgreen’s – reese’s, pringles and a doubleshot.
-Got screwed over by mapquest. I hate you, mapquest.
-Pulled into Milwaukee around 3.
-Noticed Marquette has a very pretty campus.
-Hitched a ride with author Doug Anderson to the conference.
-Caught the last speaker.
-Walked in the FREAKING COLD looking for somewhere to eat. (it was very, very cold for us, coming from high 80 weather)
-Gave up, ate at the hotel.
-Too tired for anything else, went to sleep.
Saturday:
-Got up.
-Caught shuttle to conference; shuttle was actually a schoolbus. It smelled bad.
-Listened to interesting presentations on Tolkien.
-Went to see Tolkien exhibit at Marquette’s art museum. Bought a book in the gift store.
-Ate lunch in ten minutes.
-Listened to more presentations.
-Went back to hotel; asked at front desk where a good German restaurant – they sent us to a really fancy restaurant. Luckily we were still dressed pretty nice from the conference so they let us in, ha, ha. Had lots of german food, surprise surprise.
-Caught a taxi to a weird mall where we saw Team America. It was funny.
-Caught another taxi, went back to hotel.
-Laughed my ass off at Ashlee Simpson on SNL. Ha, ha!
Sunday:
-Got up at 8.
-Managed to get out of Milwaukee no problem.
-About an hour outside of Milwaukee we discovered we left the map and driving directions at the hotel, leaving us with nothing but my one mapquest driving direction for milwaukee to chicago. Oh, well.
-Passed by the Bong Recreation Area.
-Made our way into Chicago.
-Got screwed over by Mapquest – damn you, mapquest!
-Asked for directions at a CVS. Bought more reese’s.
-Finally found Oak Park. Walked to Frank Lloyd Wright’s house. Discovered it would be another hour until the next tour, so we didn’t do the tour. Walked around outside and took pictures.
-Ask directions from two marathon runners. They gave us better directions than anyone the whole trip.
-Drove through Normal, IL.
-Stopped for Wendy’s for lunch.
-Picked a hitchhiker because he looked like Neil Young. (not really, but I told mom we did.)
-Had dinner at Lambert’s (place where they throw rolls at you from across the room.)
-Mel had a freaky experience at the gas station.
-Took Mel home.
-Got to my house around 10 pm.
So that was my weekend. Work today was hell; besides the computer systems having problems and the fedex system acting weird, I was just dead tired anyway!
But, I did finish my Leia costume tonight. Yay.
