I got my mom good last night.
Earlier this week my grandfather called around 10 at night (which is really late for them!) and said he’d just gotten a call for me. That’s not unusual, being that my dad and granddad have the same name in the phone book, we get their calls and they get our calls sometimes. My grandfather said someone named Randall had just called, asking for me – he said he’d just talked to me on the phone, and that he’d thought of something else he needed to tell me. So granddad called me to tell me about it.
I have no idea who Randall is, and certainly hadn’t just talked to anyone named Randall – but he asked for me and everything! It was really weird, and my parents were all, “WTF.” I think mum was kind of paranoid about it, I kept saying I didn’t even know anyone named Randall, but then I didn’t think anymore about it, because what reason would she have to disbelieve me?
So last night, before I left to meet everyone for dinner, my mum and dad kept asking me where I was going, who was going to be there and all this stuff. They NEVER do that… I would answer them, “the usual crowd will be there” and they were like “who is the usual crowd?” Um, only like, the exact same people I’ve hung out with the past few years? I don’t exactly have a big social circle. Then they called me like, an hour after I left, saying they were just checking in on me… another thing they never do.
I figured, they must be paranoid still. Do they not trust me? Geez. So I had told the Randall story to everybody at the table, and Ash said, “I should call your mom and ask her if she knows about Randall!” I said that would be so awesome, she should do that, but she said she couldn’t do it without laughing.
So I told Rachel to do it, and Rachel did. Rachel called me mum and asked “Do you know if Kell is out with that Randall guy?” And she said my mum got SO MAD! We all burst out laughing and Rachel handed the phone to me and I laughed at her, but mum was still kind of ticked off.
That’s what she gets for not trusting me.
