Ok so get this!
I went up to mum’s school today to have lunch with her and meet her students this year. When you get there you have to sign in and put a name badge on and all that kind of stuff… well when I went up to the front desk to do so, the receptionist was telling me to sign in and I noticed she was looking at my shirt. I thought she just wanted to read it so I pulled it out and read it outloud. It’s my Leia shirt with her holding the E-11 up and underneath says “speak softly but carry a big blaster.” After I read it I realised she was still looking at it with this expression of… I don’t know, consternation? on her face. I was confused and then I connected it, and I said, “oh, guns.” And she said, “yeah………” and she seemed to be trying to decide what to do.
I decided to head it off at the pass and not kick up a fuss about it and told her I could go see if I had another shirt in my car. She asked if I could do that and I said yeah.
I went and dug around in my car and found my old green Merry and Pippin t-shirt stuck in a bag. It had been in there with a damp swimsuit for several weeks, so it was wrinkled and didn’t smell exactly lovely. But, I put it on and went back in and she thanked me.
Ok, more than likely every kid at that school has seen Star Wars. I know at least my mum’s class has, because she regularly takes the OT set on field trips for the kids to watch. The gun wasn’t all that apparent, and you can’t read the shirt unless I pull it out from under my chest. I just think that was a little over-PC and silly. I mean, what if I hadn’t have had another shirt to change into? Would they not have let me in the school just because my shirt has Princess Leia holding a big giant scifi fake gun and has the word “blaster” on it ?
overboard, I say. Overboard.
