A giant mess

Well on the good news side, my spoonflower fabric decided it’d had enough of vacationing in the north and is finally at the local post office. Whew!

Next, I dug in and got the yoke pieces sewn together and attached. They weren’t attached yet here, just sewn together:

I ended up having to make a small extension for the back. If I wanted the pleats to look as tight as possible, then I need some more fabric in the back. Since that part will be covered by the wig, it’s just a gathered triangular piece for now. Maybe one day I’ll go back and replace it…

Then, even though it was late, I wanted to go ahead and get the bottom part in my dye so I could dry overnight and be ready to work on again this evening. I really should have gotten chase to come help me and hold the upper part of the dress up, but I didn’t, and as a result ended with dye creeping up higher than I meant for it to.

Shades of 2006 all over again when I decided to dye my Padme lake gown at midnight and it ended up way too bright and I cried because I had to ship it the next day but thankfully had some dye remover and was able to knock the colour down with it.

No crying this time but I was frustrated with myself. I did have half a box of emergency dye remover under the sink, so I tried that a bit, not a ton — above is I was left with. Chase is going to get me another full box of dye remover today so I can try again, but if it doesn’t work, then… it doesn’t work and I’ll just have to deal.

This morning I felt a little better about it, once it was dry:

The red is still coming a good 5-6 inches higher than I want, plus the pink going up the right side (left side looking at it in the photo). The pink is really the only part i’m more concerned about removing as much as possible. May try my good stain remover on it, too. fingers crossed.
