This week I’ve been working 7-4 instead of 8-5, my boss said I could try that out and it’s been giving me an extra hour of time to sew each day. Yesterday though, I skipped my lunch hour and went home at 3. It made the night soooooo long. Like by 8:10 I was looking at my phone thinking it was 9:30 and time to quit sewing for the night. I was like, seriously? I have to keep sewing for another hour? Ugh.
But! I got my sleeves made and in, cut out the flounces, made a test trim (which I didn’t take a picture of unfortunately) and started painting my underskirt.
It’s a LITTLE brighter than I want. I’m going to be going with the lighter look of the roses/vines that you can see on the small upper bunch. This panel is the back panel, by the waist, so it won’t be seen – figured that was a good place to start.
I pinned it onto my dressform for some pictures, and playing around a bit with how I wanted to tuck the skirt up.
It looks really cute with little ironing board too. Kinda been using the ironing board as a rose reference when painting!
Here’s some of my ancillary fabrics I got to use with it for trims and whatnot.
At the moment my fav is the pink cotton on the left. Of course that’s the one I get the least amount of because I actually bought it to be the interior lining of the bodice, but then I liked it so much I used something else so I could save this. I do think that if I have time to remake my corset, I’m going to use this. It’s so stinking cute.
I’ve got a yard of that dull pink taffeta in the middle which I think will make a pretty trim, and 2 yards of the rose print satin on the left. Lots to play with. I don’t want to over do it, at the moment I’m thinking I’ll do a pleated trim up the front out of the taffeta (hopefully I have enough, if not I can go back and get more), with a smaller trim in the middle of the rose print satin. I’ve got a little bit of velvet leftover I made some sleeve trim out of, and I think I’ll make a neckband out of it, too.
(sidenote: OMG I’m nearly done sewing velvet pieces together! Hooray! They are a butt to sew.)
