Guess what? I’m coming at yall live from my new laptop!
Chase did try to fix my computer, ordered a new battery, etc. But the writing had already been on the wall for that laptop; it was buggy and super slow, and photoshop did not like it at all, I’d regularly have weird things happening in photoshop because the graphics processor couldn’t keep up. We’d been shopping for a new laptop for me for a while, Chase already knew what he wanted to get for me, we had our tax return, so, yeah.
And after 30 years of being a PC/Windows loyalist I jumped ship. I got an Apple M3 Pro. I’ve been against it for so long for multiple reasons, the biggest 2 being #1, all of my programs were bought for PC and I didn’t want to have to rebuy for mac, and #2, our computer lab in college was all mac and I haaaaated them.
As to point #2, the learning curve has still been steep. I am annoying Chase with constant questions. Having to figure out which of these multiple keys to press to copy something is vaguely annoying, my fingers keeping going for CTRL. I’ll get used to it. As to point #1, now that everything is through an app it wasn’t a big deal to redownload Sims, redownload photoshop. So that obstacle was nbd.

I spent last week spring cleaning.

Finally got these Star Tours prints up in the living room. Have had them framed and sitting in the dining room for probably 6 months waiting to go up.

And got the National Parks prints up on the catwalk too. These have been sitting in a pile in my work office for a few months. You’ll notice one of them is sticking out a little bit. It’s over the top of the light switch LOL When I envisioned this I didn’t think about the light switch that is on that wall – we never use it because it’s kinda behind my sewing room door, which stays open for air flow. And it was right int he way of what I wanted to do. So we just hung the picture over it LOL.

It was Chase’s bday this weekend! Saturday we went out and had brunch at Beauty Shop, shopped around a bit. It was a nice morning but exhausting! We both came home and took an hour long nap. Then we worked on some house stuff and I overdid it; I had some discomfort in my incision areas the whole rest of the night, probably because I was bending over and picking stuff up too much.

Sunday we had another brunch for Chase’s bday, this time with the fam, at Owen Brennan’s. That was fun.
Anyway, now that the house is clean and feeling sort of “reset” I’m going to start digging into costume projects.
First, I’ve had 2 items of clothing sitting in my closet for years at this point that I bought as a Star Wars Disneybound possibility.
(Also sorry for the screencaps of a video instead of photos, I’m too lazy to go back up and take photos instead.)

I’ve had this yellow floral dress in my closet probably since 2021? Maybe longer. It was on clearance at kohl’s and I bought it for a possible picnic Padme disneybound. It was only $15!
Torn on a few things here. Originally I was considering making a little simple bodice with the actual embroidery to wear over it, but then realized that wearing a boned bodice in disney doesn’t sound fun. So then I decided instead to do a little belt right at the waistline seam that looks like her headband – I got the velvet ribbon you see above to do that, and some little rosettes to sew on.
I do also have one of the curtain panels people dye to use for her capelet. I dunno if I want to add it to this though? I may play with it and see but I think that may be overkill.
I was also on the fence over losing the high/low hem and making it all one length but everybody on tiktok said NO so I’m leaving it as is! LOL
I’m going to buy some snoods and stuff them with her hair to making removable buns. Will also have the headband on that. I will probably build all of this around a headband and I’m still torn on making Minnie Ears to include on that headband. I guess I’ll decide when I get into it.
I also need to figure out shoes. I’m wearing the shoes I got for my disneybound lake dress. I bought them for comfort and they are not comfortable LOL
The other outfit idea is less fleshed out. I’ve had this shirt I thought would make for a good Rey disneybound for ages, and this is a rough approximation of what I had in mind:

So it’d be this shirt, with a belt. Not this belt, this is Chase’s Han belt, I’d do something a bit more simple. But I would want to use his hip bag he wore with his Han disneybound which I have on here. It’s got some neat Star Wars patches on it and it’d be nice to have a bag like that.
I’d also get some capri-length pants, ideally in a slightly darker khaki than the shirt.
Shoes here is a big sticking point, I was so close to buying the pozu boots multiple times just because I LIKED them but never did. I’d see if I could find something close enough that wouldn’t blow the bank.
Anyway, I think I’m going to focus on the Padme idea for now because I have less stuff I need to buy for that (the snoods, maybe new shoes? I may just wear some sandals I already have instead)
And now Dragoncon projects. I am at the point of digging in.

I got this beautiful front piece and hip panels for MoM Wanda from another Wanda on facebook. So now I’ve got everything I need except ancillary fabrics, skirt fabric and new boots.
I also have my Troi fabric as mentioned before. I still need to buy tights, shoes, and a wig. Need to decide if I want to do a partial wig or whole wig.
Belle’s swatches so far have not been promising. I really need to sit down and figure out exactly what I want to do so I can make better fabric swatch choices.
I have 3 other costumes I’m considering. One I realllly want to do, like 95% sure I will. Going to go scavenge Joann this weekend and see if I can find anything that might work because it’s one of those fabrics I need to FEEL but it’s also so basic I do not want to swatch unless I absolutely have to.
The other 2 are hard maybes right now. I need to see how the summer plays out. I’ve kinda made a semi-schedule for myself, at least for the spring, and that’s to get started on Troi in the next week, and hopefully have the dress DONE by mid-April. Then all that will be left is sourcing the other pieces and dyeing to match, making a headband, possibly styling a wig. I want to have MoM Wanda sewing done by mid-May. The one costume idea I’m pretty sure I’ll do should be a quick build, I would also like to be done with that by start of June.
Then that gives me June, July and August to help with Chase and my parents’ costumes, focus on Belle, and maybe one of those other 2 costumes.
My brain is ready to go on this – I couldn’t stop thinking about it last night – but my body isn’t quite there yet, I think I’m at like 90%. I’m going to try to start doing a few little things this week, like maybe cutting my troi pattern, and digging out the pattern pieces for my Wanda bodice.
Wish I could just wave a wand and have them finished but alas. That would mean buying them and where’s the fun in that (and I also don’t have the money for that LOL)
