Before I jump into the weekend photos, I’ll cover the few things from the week before…
I’m going to have to get more fabric to finish the mock-up for Padme. I do think I finally figured out the hood pieces — I transferred the hood and cape mockup pieces to paper. I still need to figure out fitted sleeves, the bodice pieces and the skirt of course… all the fabric I have left of the mockup fabric is what you see on the skirt there – I just took that and pinned it on to get an idea. I should be able to get the sleeve and bodice pieces out of that. It’s not going to happen for the skirt. So that’s 8 yards of mockup fabric without getting everything out of it. So now I’m worried my 10 yards of “real” fabric aren’t going to be enough since the cape and hood have to be lined. To be fair I did have to cut the hood piece 3 times so that’s one time extra, so… fingers crossed I guess. I’ll be back at it tonight to see what else I can get figured out.
Weirdo
I spent the rest of last week finishing up the last bits of Leia, doing some repairs on Padme and Jupiter and packing.
The 3d printed necklace pieces – strung them together and put a closure in the back. Also got the belt finished up.
So anyway lets get into con stuff!
We left early Friday morning and made the drive down to Huntsville. We were able to check in early, yay!
For only wearing costumes for a day and a half, this sure is a lot of stuff.
We upgraded and got a big snack pack on check in LOL
Embassy Suites are 100% the best hotel for conventions. So much room for setting out stuff, a microwave, a fridge, a second sink and mirror, I love it, wish I could stay in a room like this for every con.
Had lunch in the hotel restaurant, then we put on Chip and Dale and headed over to get our badges.
First up we went to Paige O’Hara’s booth and had her sign our wedding cake topper š She was so nice! I do kinda wish I’d taken Belle now. Oh well.
We hung out for about a half hour walking around the dealer’s room and then decided to go get changed and go get dinner.
We went to Chuy’s for dinner:
We love this place in Nashville but it didn’t quite hit this time. I did take my leftovers back to the hotel and had them for lunch Saturday. (Yay room microwave and fridge!)
Then we went and had dessert at an ice cream place.
I did get to wear my new Padme cardigan from maxxmerch! And immediately dripped queso on it at Chuy’s D:
Saturday morning after the breakfast buffet I got into Jupiter. I was SO excited to wear Jupiter since I haven’t worn this version anywhere yet and it’s been 18 years since I wore any Jupiter costume at a con at all!
Yay!
After walking around a bit decided my feet needed a break so we went and got into Luke and Leia.
This is where I discovered that something snagged on the front panel of my brand new dress š
Like wtf š All I can guess is that it got too close to Sailor Jupiter in the closest, even though her sequin pieces are pretty flat and flush. But it’s the only thing I can think that would do it. Now I’m torn on whether or not I feel like taking this whole bodice apart to replace the front panel. I do think I have one scrap big enough to do it.
I was decently happy with how this turned out. I do have a few more thoughts but I’ll save them for the portfolio entry.
Chase took 75% of my pics this weekend at an angle that was straight up my nostrils LOL
I was obsessed with this booth with all the MLP stuff. I had most of this. Still do, I guess, in my parents’ attic somewhere.
Put on Packing Padme WITH the Museum Replica shoes finally!!
The shoes were just too damn stuff though. I did OK in them for a while, as long as I took small steps they were ok.
The weather was gorgeous Saturday.
After that we decided we’d seen everything at the con we needed to see and headed back to the hotel to change, nap and pack.
I did have to take some pics on the stairs in the hotel lobby – because…
Back in 2008 we stayed at this same hotel for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra where I was Belle, and we took Belle pics on these same stairs. (Obviously there’s been a remodel since). Another reason I was wishing I’d taken Belle.
We got dressed and headed to Phat Sammy’s for dinner – I wore my Star Wars dress and the shoes did not help how sore my feet were after the Padme packing heels. Now nursing blisters on both pinkie toes. But I enjoyed wearing my dress again and the food was good!!
Next morning we got breakfast – couldn’t get a luggage cart so we had to carry everything down in 3 trips – and headed out around 10. But we didn’t head home… I’ll post about THAT adventure in another post, it’s too much for here.
But anyway HERE is the whole Huntsville Expo gallery for anyone interested.
