spooky scary skeletons

It’s finally FALL YALL

I finished getting the inside mostly decorated.

I still have a few more lights to put up and I plan to put one of my dressforms in the front window in a spooky costume again. Thinking about using my Edith costume with my Donna Noble runaway bride veil for a spooky bride look? Gonna wrap the form in blue lights.

Outside is partially decorated too…

Put these new Haunted Mansion stretching portraits on the porch. They’re ziptied down so they don’t blow away!

Also got the good tombstones up, and the hitchhiking ghosts out, and some new little ghosts hanging along the patio.

A couple of weeks ago when Lowe’s put Halloween stuff out I was irritated to see that the Madame Leota tombstone they released this year looks MILES BETTER than the one from last year? Like I feel like they should let us return the old one for the new one LOL But I decided to paint and weather ours to try to make it look a little less cheap.

Much better. Chase is going to clear coat it for me so in case it gets rained on it’ll be ok. While I was doing this I also mixed up some more watery black paint and took it out front to do some more weathering on the good tombstones, they were looking a little too clean.

Just need to get the little tombstones out now – Chase is going to add some panels to the back to make them easier to put up, so we don’t have to keep destroying them with the metal stakes they came with.

Saturday was finally cool enough for sweaters so I got to wear my new INDY SWEATER!

Got a fabric shipment from joann last week and Luna has been enjoying the box.

And in other news, the skeleton dress is finished.

It is SOO not perfect. If you read my post last week you should remember me saying that this fabric is pretty awful — once the fabric stretches, the black ink on top “cracks’ and you’re left with white whiskering. So once I got the zipper in, I realized it was too big. I had to take the skirt off in places to take up the seams through the waist, then put the skirt back on, then realized I got a little pinch in a couple of places so had to take the skirt off again and fix that again and omg now the waist panels have SO much of that whiskering on them. It’s disappointing.

So once I got the lining sewn down and it hemmed, I decided its wearable, I’m leaving it. If this fabric didn’t have the whiskering issues, I would have undone and redone the hem in a few spots because it’s a little uneven. But not putting the fabric through anymore manhandling now.

In other disappointing news, I thought I had a black cardigan I was going to wear with this. I’ve had this black wrap cardigan for YEARS. But as I was digging through my closet for it I had a flashback to grabbing it and sticking it in the last donation bag because it had developed some holes. boo. Had to order a new one because it’s definitely not going to be warm enough to go without next week.

I had even planned to embroider over the holes! Why’d I do that. This is why i’m a hoarder.

At Memphis Comic Expo we scanned a code to win tickets to a grizz game, and we won! We went to a preseason game last night.

Went and had dinner downtown, then walked down Beale, then went and watched half the game. We left at halftime and stopped at Insomnia cookies on the way out… and got a free cookie for being able to quote Mean Girls LOL

So anyway, I’ll be doing a write up on the skeleton dress for the portfolio page after i finish this — look for it under PORTFOLIO and not costumes, it’s not getting it’s own costume page but it’ll have a mini entry in the portfolio section.

next projects…
1. another halloween outfit — this one for a very special event I’m going to with Ash halloween weekend. It’s going to be half handmade and half stuff I bought, so I’m hoping I can get the “handmade” part done in the next week or so. Not going for super accurate, just for fun.
2. Leia Honeymoon dress — got the fabric from Joann last week, I had been scheming to try to fit this into my dragoncon line up this summer but decided I’d already done enough LOL
3. Knitorious Star Wars dress — this is for our cruise next year so no rush here. I picked up my ancillary fabrics at joann last weekend. I’ll either start this or leia next week, we’ll see which way the wind blows.
