I don’t have much of anything to post this week. Spent most of the last week trying to get the HTV for the Seven yoke to work.
Basically everytime we’d do a test it’d come out backwards. Chase was definitely sending it mirrored – backwards. Then not mirrored – backwards. We’d finally get a test square that was right, go to print a full page of that – backwards. We felt completely crazy. Worst part is we wasted about a roll and a half of HTV on this, and then I wouldn’t notice it was backwards AGAIN until halfway through weeding it. So frustrating.
Finally Chase just flipped the design and that’s the only way we got a consistent cut. I finally got to start weeding a real, non-backwards version on Friday.
(The first time I realized I’d just spent 2 hours weeding this entire thing only for it to be backwards)
And then even with the pieces cut down to only be fitting the yoke panels, it still took an hour and a half to 2 hours to weed each panel, because we couldn’t get the silhouette to cut the points of each delta cleanly. So I have to carefully remove the vinyl from around each one so they don’t just pull up with the scrap. Kinda thinking we might need a new blade? Or maybe a whole new machine LOL. I also want a heat press because the variability of the iron is not fun, I always have 2-3 deltas that WILL NOT STICK.
As of this morning I have 3 of 4 done. Have the last panel to do today and then I can finally start assembling this thing. At least I’m off tomorrow, no plans, hoping I can get a lot of this done and stay ahead of schedule.
While waiting on one of the cuts (that ended up being bad) I did get the turtleneck dickie made.
Look a flower we grew!
Chase is making a new Vader for Dragoncon (Rebels version). The only part we still have of his old suit (besides the helmet) is the cape, but it has a deteriorating pleather collar. Decided to just cover it up instead of trying to remove it.
Had some scraps of new pleather (bets on how many years it takes for this one to disintegrate) and made a new one. It’s not perfect but it’s ok. I have one spot I need to fix, and I’m not going to sew the chain attachment back on til he has his shoulder armor done.
Speaking of, we went to Joann yesterday hoping for some good deals, but alas the coupon selection was lame. We did get all of the fabric for his new suit, and I got some clearance skeleton fabric (it glows in the dark!). Dunno what I’ll do with it, a dress, a skirt? I thought it might make a cut really full skirt with a white shirt and black cardigan. But that’s a discussion for after dragoncon.
Somebody actually hung out with me in my office for a few minutes friday.
Saturday we went to see Indy 5. I had no strong feelings going in — and I really liked it! It was a lot of fun.
Then we headed to Kevin’s for their yearly fireworks. Since Kevin showed up to the movie wearing his Luke Skywalker shirt, I decided to match and put on a Leia.
We had a good dinner, hung out, then went out and camped on the boat for the show.
Kevin and I spent the time playing with the panorama feature, trying to get weird photos. And rating disney attractions.
pretty
Yesterday was more weeding, ironing them on. I had to work today – Chase was off and had planned a day trip to Nashville, and was planning to get up and out at 5:30 this morning. Well around 11 it started storming again (Though I’m not even sure it ever rained? just a lot of thunder and lightning) and it knocked the power out.
Thankfully Chase has a bunch of ryobi stuff that’s battery powered, he brought his shop fan in to keep the temp down and a ryobi charger plus I’d charged all of our regular portable phone chargers earlier last week (when everybody else in our family here in town was without power for 2 days after ANOTHER storm… thought somebody might need them) so overnight was ok, kept the phones plugged in.
And then thank goodness it came back on right after 8. Hooray.
So that’s all I got today. Like I said a lot of nothing. I’m really hoping to get Seven’s jacket finished this week, maybe even tomorrow?? Then start working on the hand thingie, Vader suit, and Jedi Training Leia.
