A little less than a month and a half to go before Dragoncon. I’m feeling the pinch. I also really need to figure out what I’m taking besides the new stuff. Ugggggggh
Most of my progress this past week was on Padme but it’s not a lot to show.
I got the panel for the beading and embroidery made.
Gargoyle
Used the silhouette pen attachment to draw my beading/embroidery guide onto some stabilizer which I then stuck to the back of my panel.
And then I’ve spent the last 4 days embroidering. Well not so much yesterday but Thurs-Saturday for sure.
I haven’t been posting any progress of it on social media because it doesn’t look like much so far. I’m at the point of “does this look ok or is it a total mess?” Sometimes I think it looks ok and sometimes I think it looks like a mess. So I’ll just keep pushing on.
Chase surprised me with these! So cute!
Speaking of Jessica, I bought some shoes.
I got these at the secondhand store over the weekend.
They’re not accurate for the costume – the accurate shoes have a geta-style block heels and the brand they used is $$$$$$. Not happening and I don’t trust try to make and attach some sort of geta heels to the bottom of existing shoes. I feel like that’s asking for a wardrobe failure.
Saw these and thought they looked weird enough to go with the dress. I haven’t decided how to alter them yet – thinking try painting them first and if I dont like that then I can make shoe covers for them?
Also spotted at the secondhand store, a very dejected Teddy Roosevelt.
Also burnt the shit out of my leg with my iron. Was ironing the trim I’m using for the Jessica chain and didn’t set it back on the plate right, it fell off and onto my leg (and then onto my phone). Phone was fine, I got a nice Anakin-face-scar looking thing on my leg. It doesn’t hurt – except when I forget it there’s and run a towel over it or hit it with my shoe. Last time I burnt myself with an iron this bad was… Dragoncon 2009 prep.
In between Padme did a little bit of work on Chase’s Luke costume.
Mock-up for the leather jacket.
Finally started getting some fabric in for it – and yesterday we got his pants and the fabric for the poncho dyed.
Also got his tunic fabric in, and it also needs to be dyed, but it’s poly so I’m going to cut the pieces first and then put them in poly dye.
Yesterday after dyeing went to visit my grandma in the hospital – she broke her hip and nobody knows how.
Everybody on their phones LOL
Ran some errands, did a bit of embroidery, then we met my parents for dinner and watching ep 3 of Picard. We’re slowly making our way through it.
Also I’ve been binging What We Do in the Shadows while working on my embroidery. I watched the first season a couple of years ago after it had come out and loved it but didn’t pick back up when the second season came out, so now I’m catching up. I’m really thinking about doing a Nadja costume for Halloween and doing it as a stash-buster project – I’ve got a decent amount of black fabric in my stash I could use up, in particular I’ve got the black and gold fabric I bought for Qi’ra’s pants (I was going to use the wrong side, it had the right texture), but i don’t think I’m going to do that costume at this point, and it’s enough for a big skirt. Anyway, just thoughts.
This week – more embroidery, more luke, gotta get started on the beaded chain things for Jessica – had meant to do that this weekend and didn’t get to it. I really need to get my dragoncon bin out and test it in the new car.
