take a look, it’s in a book

Boy it has been a busy week, I actually have a lot to talk about for once.

I spent most of last week finishing my dapper Leia shawl.

Rebel symbols about 50-7% done?

Symbols done, shawl hemmed.

The hemming wasn’t as neat as I would’ve liked, but I did it by hand and I’m still babying my right arm. (It was totally fine over the weekend until last night when I went to try to play the sims and I started feeling achey again.)

What’s left – well, I need to decide if I’m wearing this as ceremonial dress-inspired or senate dress-inspired. I keep going back and forth. I think I may make accessories for both? I put my ceremonial necklace on the form for the photo, but not planning on actually wearing that – I was thinking of taking one of the pieces from my old ceremonial necklace and just putting one on a basic necklace. I could do that if I ever wanted to wear it as ceremonial.

But the bag I wanted to make to go with it is definitely senate dress-inspired, so I may not put the ceremonial necklace idea together.

Either way I need to have Chase 3d print the part for my belt, I need to modify my shoes, and I need to hem the petticoat shorter if I’m actually going to use it. I look the boost it gives to the silhouette but it’s about an inch too long. I don’t want to cut it off shorter (I use it for other costumes, Briar Rose, Disgust, etc), so i’d probably just flip it up and tack it.

Speaking of shoes, I’ll have 2 pairs of shoes for this – some heels I picked up at goodwill a few months ago, and I also bought some back-up flats:

But they are too big. So I gotta send them back and buy a size down.

Anyway, tuesday night was a drama. Chase got home and was getting ready to start cooking dinner, I was walking around “helping” but mostly playing with Luna. At one point I walked into the living room and smelled a very distinct sulfur/rotten eggs smell. Called Chase in and he smelled it too. After a minute it seemed to dissipate so we decided the cat farted (even though it’s never smelled like that LOL) and went on about our business. But then a minute later I walked into the dining room and smelled it there, too. And in the entryway/foyer also.

This happened once at our old house, and when that happened, we called our city’s emergency line and followed their instructions. This time Chase called the company that handles our home HVAC/plumbing/etc stuff. After being on hold for FOREVER they said someone would be out “before 11” geez. So then Chase turned around the called the city line, who told us to leave the house immediately and wait in our car for a tech to arrive.

So we had to bundle Luna into her vet carrier and go sit in the car. Thankfully she wasn’t too mad about it and the city techs showed up pretty quickly. And not long after them was the tech from our house company. So they all walked around together. The house tech could still smell something in the entry way, but the city tech’s reader didn’t pick up anything. They did find a small leak in the attic space which they fixed.

The entire experience took up 2 hours of our night, and by the time they all left and we could let Luna out of her carrier, it was 8pm. So cooking dinner was off the table. We headed to McDonalds to just grab something quick, ordered on the app and pulled into a parking spot to wait. 20 minutes later still no food. Chase went to the door to see what was going on and it was locked. Finally 10 minutes later somebody brought our food and the food for the car next to us out. Our food was stone cold. What a night.

Anyway, we left the vet carrier sitting out and Luna decided it was her new favourite sleeping spot:

Out of all of the little beds, tents, things we’ve bought for her she’s had no interest in, she picks the thing she has to ride to the vet in.

Friday morning Chase asked me if “the mummy movie from 1999 was worth watching” and I was like “you haven’t seen it?!?!” so we had to watch it that night. Meanwhile, it snowed.

Snow on my skylights makes the light in my sewing room very weird:

It all melted pretty quickly. Back up into the 60s today.

Saturday morning I straightened up my sewing room so I could start on the next thing since Leia was pretty much done.

Luna decided my newly-emptied garbage can was a good place to sit.

We went and picked up Kevin to take him to target for some trip shopping, but I ended up finding clothes in his closet his mom said I could modify for his Luke disneybound so we didn’t really have to buy much. I still need to order his shoes, and I’ll have to dye the shirt.

I don’t know what was in the air Saturday but people were just being jerks. Kevin and I went to get in the self checkout line and as we walked by, Kevin stopped and looked up at the large photo ad in front of the children’s section. The woman standing in front of it looked at the guy she was with and in a nasty tone said “What the hell was HE staring at?!” I was already standing directly behind her in line so I loudly said “He was looking at the photo behind you.” She looked at me and then turned away, didn’t say anything. I kept staring at her the entire time we were in line, I was ready to throw down in the middle of target, but she never looked back at me.

Then there was the movie theater incident which I’ll get to in a minute.

We headed to dinner later and before that we stopped at a new vintage toy shop here in town. It was really cool!

They had this Fisher Price space station which was one of my FAV toys when I was little. I didn’t buy it because A)I don’t need it and B)I technically still have it somewhere in my parents’ attic LOL

I did buy this though. I used to have this Mulder action figure but I haven’t seen him in a very very long time so I have to assume he’s lost. I still have Scully, she’s been hanging out alone on the shelf in my work office. So I had to reunite them.

Tacos for dinner then off to one of our favourite theateres for The Batman.

We haven’t been to this theater since before covid, but we always liked it because it catered to an older crowd. We could go see new releases here without teenagers running in and out of the theater like at other locations.

Well guess what happened. We had a group of teenagers sitting directly behind us. They talked and laughed the ENTIRE time, they ran in and out of the theater non-stop. The only time we could enjoy the movie was when they’d inexplicably be gone for 15-20 minute stretches. I shushed them and they shushed me back and carried on. Several people got up to complain. They got numerous warnings from staff, even a “final warning.” Right in the last 5 minutes of the movie, they were making fart noises and then started throwing coins. If we hadn’t had Kevin with us (who was completely engrossed in the movie), we’d have left ages ago and asked for our money back. But the coin-throwing was the last straw, we went out and told staff, and thankfully the people right in front of US followed to also complain because one of the coins landed directly in their popcorn bucket. They led the security guard back in the theater to point them out, meanwhile the employee gave us free passes for our trouble and then we got out of there because we didn’t want a confrontation.

Some peoples’ children.

Despite that I really enjoyed The Batman. Would like to see it again without the distractions.

Sunday we stayed in most of the day. We needed to go to an AT&T store to get our phones fixed but put it off — ever since we got our new phones, there’s been something wrong with the “dual sim” features and it seems like our main phone lines are set up as the “travel” line with nothing under primary and we can’t fix it. Our texting is totally messed up. When I try to text Kevin it shows up as being from the email address I use for my apple log-in instead of my phone number. So annoying.

Anyway my spoonflower Marvel fabric arrived Friday!

Thankfully it shipped before I got the notice that it got copyright claimed on spoonflower and removed.

Of course I’m using the same pattern as the Stitch outfit from last year and it went together really fast.

The top is done. Only tricky part of this is that for some reason the facing was like 3/4 an inch too short to fit correctly so I had to make an extension right at the side seams.

And I COULD have finished the shorts yesterday too except I didn’t have any elastic for the waistband. Thought I did. Got some ordered to be here today. Then I can get that installed and the shorts hemmed and it’s dooone!

So then all that’s left for disney stuff is:
-Finishing up dapper Leia which is mostly doing the purse.
-making a wanda shirt. shirt is here just waiting on better weather for working outside.
-decorating the bags I got for me and kevin

I think that’s it?? Time to start getting more swatches for dragoncon projects then, it’s almost time to jump into that…
