Oh hey I forgot to include this in the post yesterday so here’s a rare second post in a week.
I finished the Marvel project! I ended up adding 4 more characters to the original planned 24 because they weren’t fitting right, I needed a few more. Since finishing them I’ve gotten them all put together on one file and I’ll show the finished product once I have it.
Just as a reminder, these are all simplified/simple colours/tried to simplify lines and designs because these are all going to be printed really small in the finished product. But anywhere, here they are:
Tony and Cap
I didn’t want to draw the Iron Man helmet so i left it off. Also both Rhodey and Pepper in her Rescue armor were on the short list to be included but after struggling with drawing this armor I didn’t want to do it again.
For Cap, this was Cap #2. I wasn’t happy with the first one so I completely redid it.
Falcon & Winter Soldier
I couldn’t decide whether or not to do Bucky with the long hair look or the short, I decided to go with the more current look.
No totally happy with Cap Falcon but it’s ok, I think it’ll look fine small.
Captains Carter & Marvel
I think this one really illustrates the differences between how they were turning out at the beginning of the project vs the end. Captain Marvel was the first one I did, Peggy was one of the last. So Carol looks a little rougher/more simple. I did redraw her face towards the end of the project to bring it more in line with the rest of the characters.
Thor and Loki. Loki was another early one I went back and redid the face and some of the proportions to bring it more in line with all of the others.
Nat was another really early one, and another one I redid the face and change the proportions a bit from the first version. You can tell still she’s slightly more cartoony than some of the others.
I was on the fence on including Yelena but I’m glad I did because I think she’s my fav of the whole project.
I did both Black Widow and Hawkeye in these lower poses and decided i didn’t want to do too many more like that because they may be hard fit into the overall piece — but once got them all together wish i’d done a few in extreme or lower this. ended up with standing static than was totally happy keep redrawing.
Also Kate Bishop was on the short list but didn’t quite make it. At the end I was strongly considering another 4 characters but I think my overall design would’ve been TOO busy at that point.
I didn’t want to do a typical Hulk so instead here’s a Professor Hulk reading a book called Smash. I’ll let you decide what the book is about.
Starlord and Gamora, not much to say here
Rocket and Groot I had to dig around and use a lot of reference because I don’t draw a lot of racoons or trees but especially big giant space guns.
I almost left Drax out, and if anybody asked where he was, I was going to say he was invisible. But I ended up including him. He’s one I wish I’d put into more of an action pose.
Mantis was one of the last ones I did for the project and she came out a little rushed because I was ready to be done.
Wasp (and Antman) were earlier ones. I almost deleted the tiny Antman and included him “full size” but he just seemed like he’d be a pain to draw and I like the little tiny goofy Antman here.
Wanda and Vision, Wanda was another really early one I had to go back and redo the face to bring it more in line with the other characters. Vision I think I should’ve pushed a little more simplified/bigger head or face but oh well.
Dr Strange was another early one but I left him as-is, he still seemed to fit with the later ones.
Nick Fury was one the last 4 I added at the end. I hadn’t included him originally because his outfit is boring. So to make it more fun I included Goose.
Black Panther is another I wish I’d put in a different, more action-y pose. But I wanted him to look regal. I tried to give Shuri a little bit more movement. But I’ll continue my thoughts after the next set of pics…
Okoye was another one I added at the end, and again i was going for regal. When I put Black Panther, Shuri and Okoye all together in the final project they just looked so static. So I wish I’d done a different pose for her. But oh well; on her own I like how she turned out a lot.
Ok why was it so hard to find decent Shang-Chi costume references? I had a better time with literally every other character. I had to use a cosplay costume as a reference for the shirt and shoes and who knows if they were right.
And finally a Spidey. Should I have done 3 Spideys? LOL
Anyway you can see a sneak peek of the final
