The days are changing – the sunlight in my work office in the morning is absolutely killing me. It’s reflecting off the glass of my desk and directly into my eyes. I’ve had to pull up the ends of the curtains to lay across the glass to block it.
And this is why, last week, I built a blanket fort in my sewing room and just worked from my blanket fort. Like an ADULT.
I didn’t do much this past week. Pretty standard laziness for September. Post-dragoncon exhaustion, after spending the last few months working like mad every night on costumes, plu smy birthday all equal September being the month I embody laziness. “I should go ahead and make that duct tape dummy I was thinking about” but then I think “nah treat yo’self to a night of watching crap on youtube and playing the sims.”
Well I literally wrote the above about 3 hours ago and have since been sitting here trying to get my photos from last week to upload from my phone. We’ve been having internet issues for a couple of weeks and it comes and goes. Apparently the universe doesn’t want me to post any pics today.
Let’s see what I managed to upload…
Fireplace decorated for halloween. I’m on a hunt to find PURPLE lights – not violet/pink. I found some at Lowe’s this past weekend that I’m going to go back and get. These pink lights just don’t say “spooky”
Why were we at Lowe’s this weekend? For PAINT!
Originally we were going to go to the crafts fair this past Saturday. But money was tight so we decided to stay home and do some much needed house projects. I had a $50 Lowe’s gift card, so we went and bought some paint.
We’ve put off painting any of the major spaces downstairs, because the entry way, dining room, living room, stairs, and upstairs are all the same colour and that’s just a LOT to do, especially considering a lot of it is 2 stories. But the one thing we wanted to paint IMMEDIATELY upon moving in is the dining room.
Most of the rooms in this house were painting pretty standard colours, nothing crazy. Except the dining room, which was YELLOW, with green trim, and purple inside the built-in china cabinet.
What we’ve WANTED to do is paint the dining room at the same time we painted all those other areas I’ve mentioned, because the dining room and entryway are connected. And we wanted to pop the trim/chair rails off, strip them and stain them to match the other natural wood in the house. But all of that is projects for the distant future. so to take care of it TODAY — we are painting it a very pale grey, and the trim white. Eventually we’ll be painting the rest of those main areas the same pale grey, and stripping the trim later.
Progress
We’re still not done – the walls took 2 coats and the trim is so far looking like it’s going to be 3 coats. So I’ll post finished pics next week.
So how did we handle the change from the dining room to the entry way? Same way the previous owners did:
It used to be yellow meets pale yellow. Now it’s grey meets pale yellow LOL Until we can paint the rest of the house.
After we finish this next project is going to be Kevin’s room. We’ve been planning on that for ages and it’s time!
Also got our new vacuum cleaner assembled.
Luna enjoyed the new box.
She was REALLY not happy with us disassembling the dining room to paint and turned bitchy all day saturday.
Got my new moo cards in!
So yesterday I pulled all my bins out again and replaced the homemade tags with the moo cards. Much better. And while I was at it, I pulled all the hanging stuff out too and got everything re-bagged and hung back up.
I’ve got to come up with a better system for labeling the garment bags. Only one of them has a clear window where I can see what is in it. I’ve tried tags and label stickers – the label stickers didn’t stick and kept getting stuck on other things and lost, and the tags I tried weren’t obvious enough. I’ve been thinking about trying tags again but instead of putting them on the hangers at the top, sewing them onto the side with ribbon so they’re easier to see (since the bar in my closet is so high up). Or a bit more intense — using my embroidery machine to make “labels” out of scrap fabric that I could sew onto the garment bag. I dunno.
I like how I said I’ve been lazy but I also pulled everything out of the costume closet and reorganized it and I’ve been painting the dining room. It only feels lazy because I’m not having to use my brain LOL
Wednesday we had dinner with my parents for my bday. It was good, steak and twice baked potatoes and a red velvet bundt cake. Last night we had dinner with Kev and his parents. Somehow I didn’t take any pics during either event. Dunno how that happened.
Well I had some tiktok videos I was going to post here today too, but I can’t get them to upload. Looks like I did manage to scrape up most of my photos at least.
As usual tiktok’s been pissing me off. If I didn’t enjoy making the videos so much I’d stop LOL. But I enjoy making them so oh well, it is what it is at this point. tiktok gonna tiktok. Last week I did a 2 costume change video (Scarlet Witch) and this week a 4 costume change video (Leia), both of which I really liked. The Scarlet Witch video I tried reuploading after it flopped. The reupload has 750 views 8 days later. My Leia video I uploaded last night has 276 views. It’s just frustrating to put work into it and then my dumb 8 second Padme video I slapped together one afternoon has 19,000 views after 1 day. Like I said, tiktok gonna tiktok.
I’ve got a few more things I recorded this weekend, none of them serious or that I put as much work into, see what happens…
OH BTW! I did finish getting the site updated, Padme is on here now, all finished. Next week I should hopefully have some Utena stuff + some Halloween project for a friend costume stuff to talk about.
