What a strange few days it’s been.
I’ve still been having an off and on again migraine the past week – it’s getting old. I’m hoping I’m over it as of today – woke up feeling ok, but there’s also storms/pressure change coming through today, so who knows.
First up, Luna is… Luna, I guess.
Chase brought her home from her surgery Wednesday afternoon. Look at that poor thing. She absolutely HATED the cone. So Thursday we got an inflatable version (only one pet store in town had them in stock, wtf) and very carefully replaced the hard plastic cone with the inflatable.
Huge difference. I think it helped her feel more like herself. She was able to eat easier (I was having to spoon-feed her when she had the plastic cone on) and stopped running into everything. She managed to get it off in the middle of the night Friday – but Chase saw it on the camera we had set up in there so we were able to go fix it.
She still doesn’t like it, tho.
Thursday and friday she was fine. Didn’t really seem to be in much pain, just annoyed by the collar, and the fact that she was confined to either the laundry room or the kitchen. We blocked off the kitchen with baby gates and set stuff in areas she likes to jump up to – so as long as we’re downstairs with her she can sit and look at the doors and have some more entertainment than just the laundry room. (Too much stuff in the living room she likes to jump up on to let her into that area)
Saturday I don’t know what happened. We think maybe I scared her when I opened the laundry room door that morning – she was behind it and I didn’t see her at first and said “Uh Oh” (she did not get hit by the door, she was just behind it). She came out from behind the door, saw me, and hissed. And then every time she saw me the rest of the morning, she hissed at me. She was fine with Chase, it was just me. So I just decided to leave her alone – I didn’t come in eyesight of her the rest of the day, Chase fed her and dealt with her the rest of the day. I figured I just needed to leave her alone.
Sunday I again stayed back but i talked to her through the baby gate. Finally Sunday mid-day I needed to go get a drink, so I went in the kitchen with her – she was trilling and trotted over to me like normal, so I was like, ok, she’s over the hissing. She was begging for food so I grabbed a plate and was going to get her a scoop of her wet food. She was trotting beside me and then suddenly stopped, looked up at me, and hissed.
So I just set the plate down and left. But it did really upset me. Like I know she’s probably still in some pain from the surgery, but is she going to keep associating me with pain forever? After a while I went back downstairs and grabbed the back scratcher – she LOVES the back scratcher, so I went and sat by one of the baby gates and poked the scratcher through the holes. She came over and let me scratch her with it through the gate, she was loving it. No hissing.
So I plan to keep doing that. I’m not going to get into her space for now. But going to keep trying to give her things that make her happy through the gate. Either the back scratcher, or toys, or cat grass (got a call in to the vet today to see if she can have cat grass yet)
But anyway it’s made both Chase and I pretty upset. Especially since she was fine with me Thursday and Friday, we don’t know why it started up again saturday and if it just was because I just startled her with the door, why’d it carry over to Sunday? That’s not like her.
But obviously we’re giving it some time because she’s still recovering and nothing is normal.
So the plans this weekend were – Saturday – yardwork and swimming afterwards, go to bed early, because Sunday – get up at 3:30AM to drive to St Louis for our friend’s baby’s baptism! Well the whole weekend got a bit changed up so let’s start at the beginning.
First up, since my post on Wednesday, I finished up the embroidery on the front panels:
It was a LOT trickier to get these placed on this piece than the straight front panel. I measured them out for the lower edge all the way around the back, and I was going to have to do 1 single swirl at the center back. Well I got to that point… and the section was much wider than what I had originally marked out. Too wide for one, not wide enough for 2. Ugh. But since I was right at the center back seam…. I jut took the seam up and made it shorter so that one swirl would fit LMAO
Saturday I got them mostly lined. I say mostly because for the top piece, I left it open along the center back because I think i’m going to have to shorten it – I think it’s coming up over the shoulders too much. But I don’t want to make that call until I have the pleated fabric section made and tacked on. So i’m leaving it open for now. (Speaking of the pleated fabric sections, I had to go back and try to find my swatches from last year. The one I’d picked is no longer available LOL. So I’ve ordered new swatches)
Anyway and then the lining on the big panel – I ran out of bobbin Saturday night just over halfway done so I left it like that for now LOL. It’s still just pinned along the bottom.
But I’m excited because it’s starting to really look like a real thing.
So Friday morning, we found out the baptism is postponed! So we were relieved we wouldn’t have to leave Luna, but also bummed we wouldn’t get to see our friends – haven’t gotten to see them in over a year.
Saturday we got up and tried to get some yardwork done before it got too hot. Well it was still hot, so after we got done, we went swimming over at Nana’s. Of course by the time we got over there, the sun had gone behind the clouds and it was a bit chilly in the pool. Plus I was dealing with a migraine so it wasn’t the best outing LOL.
After a nap and some sewing we decided to get my fav mexican place for dinner, since we hadn’t had it in a while. We called it in, had to circle around waiting on one of the pick-up parking spots to open up (people were just parked in them…), finally got one and called the number to tell them we were there. By that point it’d been about 20 minutes since we’d called it in, and it’s usually ready by then. We waited… and waited… and finally I was like… it’s been a half hour. It doesn’t even take that long inside to get your food. I told Chase I think they’d forgotten us. So he called the number again and… they brought it right out. I dunno what happened there but it wasn’t like them. Not gonna complain because I know they (and everybody) have been dealing with staff shortages.
Then Sunday, since we had nowhere to go, we decided to do the new torso mold for my Scarlet Witch stuff.
We previously did one of me back in 2009 (and I passed out during it… LOL), and that’s what we’ve used for years for anything like that… except we threw it away a while back, when cleaning up the garage, because I was like, I’m not going to do any mores that need stuff like that! And then boom, Wandavision.
We only did my front since that’s all we needed for this.
And it’s probably better we did a new one since I’m not the same shape I was in 2009. LOL
After cleaning all that up, I decided to take a little break from Padme and start on the silly costume project:
I didn’t get very far. I started with an vintage 80s pattern I had, tweaked it, tweaked it some more, tweaked it some more again and finally got the top sections cut and pinned together, and that’s about it so far. I think I may not have enough lining for the skirt since I ended up having to cut the top pieces twice, but we’ll see.
Sunday night we went out for Father’s Day dinner with my parents. Decided to go to our fav cajun place in midtown. Chase and I got down there first and… the place was closed. Just a handwritten sign on the door, closed. I’m like, we’re not having very good luck with dinners this weekend, are we? LOL. Again we marked it up to staff shortages. But we were right within walking distance of multiple good places to eat so we tried a new place, Salty Crab. It was pretty good.
I’ve eaten a lot of take-out sushi over the course of the pandemic and it was so nice to have sushi that hadn’t gotten lukewarm on the way home due to sitting in with other hot food.
We stopped at target on the way home for some stuff we needed and Chase started having calf cramps halfway through the store. So a weird way to finish up the weekend.
So this week…
Kevin’s bday!
Luna can take the cone off this weekend… fingers crossed.
