I always looking forward to doing my end of the year costume wrap-ups. This year is sad. I really didn’t think a year could get worse than 2019 and that 2020 would be a great year. Instead we got a dumpster fire. I’m angry, sad, depressed. All I want is to get eat pizza in a restaurant.
Anyway. I did actually get a decent amount of sewing done this year despite having no goals or dreams of any kind. Here’s what I said my plans for 2020 were in December 2019:
1. Boushh Upgrades
2. Arwen Hope Gown
3. Raddus Bridge Leia
4. Lothal Leia
5. Ceremonial Leia Redo
6. Liberty Dies Padme
7. Chip and Dale
8. Black Widow
9. Other Disneybound STuff
10. Wendy Torrance
11. A black sack back gown?
12. Qi’Ra?
13. Spoilery Costume from ROS (AKA Jedi Training Leia)
Let’s go through them one by one.
1. Boushh Upgrades – DONE (ish)
My plans for this were to do a LOT of upgrades and finish my new helmet. I didn’t really do any of that, but I did do a few little things to it to make it more wearable, because I had wanted to wear it to an event in March. (Ended up not going to that event because that was literally the weekend everything started shutting down here.) I fixed some issues on the boots, made a new closure for the cummerbund, and a few other little things. I still need to redo a lot of this though – I want to eventually make a new tunic, under tunic, update the pants, and maybe make all new boots. Along with the helmet. So I kinda touched on this but not completely
2. Arwen Hope Gown – DONE
Under the wire – just finished it last week. I started on it in October 2019 so it was inevitable it’d be finished eventually… just didn’t think it would take THAT long. Kinda kept losing steam on it. Story of 2020.
3. Raddus Bridge Leia – DONE
It was like 99% done when I posted my 2019 list so no surprise here – I actually classify it as a 2019 costume and not 2020.
4. Lothal Leia -nope
This was supposed to be for Dragoncon and everything that was for Dragoncon got pushed back. Hopefully 2021 🙁
5. Ceremonial Leia Redo – DONE!
This was a total darkhorse! Even last year I said it was a pipe dream – didn’t actually think I’d get to it, but here it is. In May this year I did a video of all my Star Wars costumes and fitting into my 2007 ceremonial Leia was… questionable. So since at that point I’d kinda realized the rest of the year was blown, why not.
6. Liberty Dies Padme – nope
Another Dragoncon project. I do have everything for this, so it’ll happen. It just didn’t have to happen this year, there was no point.
7. Chip and Dale – half DONE
This was supposed to be for our May 2020 Disney trip. Which didn’t happen. Obviously. But for a while there we weren’t sure so I mostly finished my Dale dress. It still needs hemmed and a back closure put in (just pinned on here), and I didn’t make any of my accessories (hat, belt, bag, etc). And I only got the pieces of the Chip jacket cut, didn’t even get them sewn together. I guess I’ll be tackling that soon and fingers crossed our 2020 trip happens.
8. Dapper Day Black Widow – DONE
I was supposed to be wearing this at Dapper Day May 2020 on the same day Black Widow released to theaters 🙁 I haven’t worn it at all. Try again next year…
9. Other Disneybound Stuff – DONE (partially)
Last year I said I had 2 other little Disneybound projects – turning my old Padme lake dress panels into a shrug or something – did that, it’s finished and wearable and I love it. The other was updating my Leia disneybound. I got the jacket finished… but nothing else, I was also making an outfit to go underneath it and a “park friendly” belt but never got to any of it. Again, I’ll try again next year…
10. Wendy Torrance – nope
Another dragoncon project.
11. A black sack back gown – nope
I’ve been keeping an eye out for the fabric I wanted for this but haven’t found anything. But that’s just casual “looking” not really hunting. Dunno if or when I’ll get to it.
12. Qi’Ra – nope
Haven’t even thought about it.
13. Jedi Training Leia from ROS – nope
Same.
So what else did I make this year that I DIDN’T plan on?
1. Poe Dameron Comic Leia
Probably just a week after I posted my 2019 wrap-up I randomly decided to make this like RIGHT NOW. Made it in January 2020. Pretty happy with it. I was supposed to wear it to Huntsville Comic Expo (crying face)
2. Marasiah Fel Redo
Out of left field, I remade major parts of this costume to the point I almost consider it a new costume. I had it out for a dressform video earlier this year and realized I could fix the problems with it pretty easily. Made a new bodice, “tie” thing, brooch, and half skirt and altered the original bodysuit I wore with it. Only things that stayed original from 2007 was my cape, base boots, wig and tiara.
3. Padme Nightgown
Another one coming out of left field… I started on this in 2006. It floated around my “to finish” end of the year costume lists for while. TBH I never thought I’d actually finish it, I figured I’d throw it away one day. But once I realized in spring that the rest of the year was shot, I decided to make myself finish it.
I hate how I look in it but whatev, I finished it.
4. Sleeping Beauty Updates
Made a new bodice for Aurora and altered the dress to fit again. Really happy with the updates.
5. Bye Bye Birdie Jacket
My last play project, for a production of Bye Bye Birdie in February.
6. 2 pairs of shorts for Chase
It was supposed to be 3 but I only made 2.
7. Star Trek Skants
These weren’t for me. These were for my godmom for her to wear to the Huntsville Con we were all going to. I got the TNG skant almost done, it needed some fit alterations and a hem but that was it.
I also worked through a TOS skant, making a mockup and then rewriting the pattern instructions and making new pattern pieces. It’s ready to go if I ever get to make it for real.
We’re tentatively still going to this con in April 2021 so the TNG skant is on the docket to be finished next month.
8. Stitch romper
This was a wearable mock-up for my disneybound Leia. I had this cute Stitch knit so I tested the pattern on this. It’s cute but I’m not sure if I like how it looks on me. I should get it out and just start wearing it, it’s not like anybody sees me ever.
9. Shining Moon Tokyo Sailor Jupiter
For Halloween. The 20th anniversary of my first Jupiter costume.
10. Various House Projects
Painted my bathroom. Hung shelves. Redid my (normal clothes not costume) closet. Got a new couch and new rug for living room. Had plans to also paint our bedroom but won’t be happening this year.
11. Eliza (Hamilton)
(Updated 12/28/20) – Sliding in just under the wire, I finished Eliza this past weekend. She wasn’t QUITE finished in this photo (still needed hemming) but she is now – just need to get photos so I can updat ethe iste.
All right so I think that’s all my projects I’ve done this year.
So let’s look at 2021 and hope anything actually happens otherwise I may take a long walk off a short pier.
Starting off with the stuff I already listed above I need to finish…
1. Star Trek Skant
For Huntsville con for my godmom
2. Finish my Disney projects
Chip and Dale, Leia disneybound, I guess I’ll have to make matching masks too, bleh
3. Liberty Dies Padme
Gotta get back on the ball with this, try to remember my plan of attack.
4. Bail Organa
For Chase. Same here. Don’t remember how I’d planned to make this one, need to figure it out again.
5. Finishing Eliza
6. Remake Endor Leia
I’ve got partial fabric for this. Just need to get on it.
7. Lothal Leia
Another hold over from this year.
8. Another Leia I hadn’t done yet… either the Jedi Training or TFA Jumpsuit or Rise of Skywalker.
See how I’m feeling when I get to it I guess.
9. Something from Twin Peaks
I dunno. The one good thing to come from 2020 is, for me, Twin Peaks. Diane maybe? Log Lady? I dunno.
I don’t think I want to plan much more than that this year. I don’t want to get my hopes up.
