ayyy yo

Sorry for no post last week. I really didn’t have anything to post so I decided to wait.

Aaaand… as of today I still don’t have much of anything to post. I’ve spent the last 10 DAYS taking photos but have nothing to show for it. (Yet)

I did not expect my little dragoncon weekend project to take 10 days. I thought I’d be able to do it all in the 4 days of “dragoncon.” But nope. I was able to do 2002-2011 that weekend and had to do more weeknights after work, and do it all saturday and sunday, too. I barely finished up last night.

The sucky thing is that when I started this last Friday, I didn’t think to start throwing things in my highlighted stories. I did a Q&A Monday morning, documented our white backdrop photoshoot, and then started in on the dragoncon project… not realizing I was already past 100 instagram stories. I lost all of the Q&A, the stuff I posted from the photoshoot and the first little bit of Dragoncon 2002 costumes before I realized and started throwing everything in highlights. I thought they’d just be in my archive, but nope. Anything that went over 100 posts is technically in my archive but they are all just greyed out boxes I can’t click on. Lame.

On top of struggling to finish it… (I did think about stopping and doing the second half another time! But I had everything already out and set up. Didn’t want to have to drag it all out again later.) last week at work was seriously the craziest it’s been probably since Christmas? I was so stressed out and then had to spend every night doing more costume stuff when I really just wanted to go sit in bed and bead my arwen sleeves and watch hoarders LOL.

So here are the handful of things I have on my phone I can post.

We shot Garth, Kate (B-52s), Misato, Tinkerbell, and Amidala last Friday.

I lost all of my other mirror selfies because I took the photo in instagram and had it in my story. This was the only one I had in my camera roll.

The night before the photoshoot – here’s my restyled Kate wig. I cut about 2 inches off and curled the ends back up. It looked a lot better. Can’t wait to get the photos.

And now here is the one pic I DO have from the photoshoot because I wanted it right away…

Classic Luna.

Saturday we did run a few errands in the morning including picking up lunch to take home which took an hour waiting on food which put me behind.

But it was good, I have leftovers today.

Also Saturday – I had some technical difficulties. Ya’ll know my nice display form with the arms?

The one on the right here.

Of course I was using it for all of the dressform photos as I went all week. Because it’s the only form I can put pants on, and of course it has arms, so it’s nice for displaying a costume. Well as the week progressed, I kept noticing anytime I had something heavy on it, it would slowly shrink. I just figured I hadn’t tightened the screw enough when putting the form back on the stand and the weight was causing it. Then, Saturday, I had the pink velvet dress on the form and could not get it to stay in place AT ALL. Chase came and looked at it…. and turns out I’ve stripped… I dunno if it’s the screw or the inside thing, but it’ll no longer screw in and hold. I don’t know the technical terms here, all I knew is that my nice display form was messed up. Chase managed to get the display form to work on my regular dressform’s stand, so I could continue – but that stand is a whole lot less sturdy so it was tricky. Now that I’m done with the project I’ve got to see if I can fix it. Bummer.

Last night, I finished up the last costume I needed to talk about (Lake Dress version 5) and then added one little message at the end, because I wanted thank everybody who followed along. I’ve gotten so many nice messages about it, and it made me glad folks were enjoying it and not just being irritated by my gigantic stories LOL. (I’m sure a few people muted me!) I started to say something along the lines of “This year has been really hard” and as I said that, the feelings of missing dragoncon and disney and everything just overwhelmed me and I started crying. I deleted that take and cleaned myself up and re-recorded it. I’m not going to be the person crying on instagram LOL. But I almost cried talking about what Dragoncon meant to me earlier in the series too. I’m in a fragile state, I guess.

I was trying to put the rose petal on her head and she wouldn’t let me.

And lastly, Virtual Dragoncon was nice. Not the same as real Dragoncon, but the Dragoncon team really put together a neat experience. I especially loved the virtual parade. I won Best Companion in the Doctor Who Costume Contest. I’ve wanted to enter it for a couple of years now but never worked out with my schedule, so being able to do it virtually was nice.

This week I’m going to cleaning everything up. I reorganized my work office a couple of weeks ago and now have some room to store more stuff in here (thanks to having under bed space now) and I also cleaned out one of the storage trunks in our bedroom and will be moving it upstairs for more storage space. So I plan on redoing some of my costume storage as I clean up. Yay? I guess.

I’m so fucking over this pandemic.
