there is no sign of land

Hey first I have some sewing stuff WOW

I finished the lake shrug.

Here it is from the front. I think I had the front finished when I posted lat week so if I did, well here it is again.

So last week I was struggling with not wanting to cut the excess off the back because I loved how long it was wearing it around the house, but that wasn’t even remotely sensible for wearing it to Disney World – which is what it’s for.

But BenaeQuee on instagram suggested I bustle it instead of cutting it off which was the perfect solution! So above is it unbustled. So I can still live my super long extra dressing gown life at home.

And then here it is bustled for wearing out and about:

I did have to trim a little length off one end and re-hem it to make it work, but wasn’t much.

There’s two snaps at the center back that the ends snap onto.
So that’s finished. I hung it up in the closet and marked it off the list.

Then onto Arwen. I was supposed to get my spoonflower fabric Friday, but of course with the current state of USPS that didn’t happen. I mean, I can’t complain too much, at least it wasn’t medication I need to live like some other people are dealing with. It was in town Friday morning then for some reason they sent it to a city an hour north of here. It’s finally back in town today and supposed to show up. But I had hoped to work on Arwen all weekend and without the spoonflower fabric, that didn’t happen.

But I did find one part I could work on that I’d been putting off because it wasn’t the “fun” part.

I am building the hope dress the exact same way I did my blood red dress – outer velvet dress and then an inner dress made of lining to support the sleeves. I finally got my purple lining fabric out and got the interior dress cut out and totally finished yesterday except for the sleeves. Hemmed, faced, zipper in, it’s all ready to go.

I can’t attach the sleeves yet though – the ones in the photo above are my lining for the chiffon. I’ll be using them as the pattern to cut the chiffon (I need to shorten them a bit first), and then I’ll be beading the chiffon before assembling the lining and outer piece and attaching it to the underdress. So that won’t happen for a while yet.

The drape on that is just the mockup for the drape of the outer velvet dress. Was trying to re-familiarize myself with it before cutting the velvet. I only have one square of the velvet left so I’ve got to make sure I have the shape right before I cut into it.

Speaking of the outer dress, I do have work I can do to that if my chiffon still doesn’t show up today. It’s just hand-basted together so I need to machine stitch the 2 side seams, finish the shoulder seams and hem it. I could do all that in a night… I just… haven’t. LOL. It’s been in the same condition since November last year or something like that?
My brain is just stuck on getting this chiffon first.

Angle from my couch.

This past weekend was not bad. Friday night I wanted to record several tiktoks, but after 2 my stomach was kinda hurting so I stopped for the night and went to bed. Saturday went swimming in the morning, and then ran errands with Chase all afternoon – Black Lodge (movies this week – Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Chaplin), picked up lunch, went to Target. Watched Planes Trains and Automobiles saturday night. I’d never seen it and it was cute.

Yesterday I spent almost the whole day in my sewing room. We went and got waffle house to go for breakfast because I was craving waffles. Then upstairs to supposedly sew. I did work on the dress and get it mostly finished but it was punctuated by long spans of time just laying on the floor looking at tiktok.

I did also pressure wash the driveway. So that was something.

I also wanted to do a video this week about my Leia costume so I got all of them out and steamed.

It’s driving me CRAZY I can’t find the 2002 version though. Not that I really needed it for this but I’d love to take pics of them all together. 2004 (far left) hasn’t been out in ages. She was super wrinkled and I was surprised at how… dirty it is! I’d been calling her “trash compactor Leia” for a while but seeing how many marks and stains on it was a big shocking! I had wanted to include my 2004/2006 boots but couldn’t find them. They’re around somewhere, just… not where they are supposed to be.

I’ll punctuate the rest of my post with various refaces I’ve made lately. I know you’re all probably tired of them but they crack me up so much.

So obviously we’ve been on the fence about Disney for November. This was our May trip we rescheduled for fall Dapper Day. We’ve been in a “wait and see” mode.

I’d honestly been feeling better about it lately. We even discussed extending our trip a day and staying at a Universal resort and doing Universal the last day. Yeah, we’d still be paying full price for half an experience, but if we could rebook all the dining we’d been looking forward to, and have low crowds, it might be worth it?

Talked to Chase about it this weekend, and he was of the mind to reschedule it to next year. We’d have time to save more money to put towards the trip – and maybe upgrade to a better hotel. But I couldn’t remember how long they extended the tickets through – last I looked was December, but I thought they’d extended them again, so I went to look this morning.

And I was right, our tickets are good through September 2021. So that’s not an issue if we reschedule again. But when I was in MDE I noticed our hotel reservations had disappeared. When we moved everything in April, I’d gone ahead and reconnected it and it was in there previously, but now it wasn’t.

So since it was under Chase’s name, and booked through Dapper Day’s portal, Chase called group reservations today. They found it no problem. Dunno why it got removed but it could possibly be because they of course moved our resort. We were booked at our “home” Port Orleans French Quarter which probably isn’t opening this year, so I knew we were going to get moved – I was just waiting to see where.

Aaaaaaand they had moved us to Caribbean Beach. No hate to CB, we stayed there once. But I didn’t love it. I don’t like how spread out it is. So now we’re paying full price to stay at a resort I don’t like, wearing masks everywhere, no parades, no fireworks, no parkhopping….

So yeah. That’s the last thing I had to look forward to this year. There is no sign of land. I guess I can just start blowing the rest of my vacation time now.

Anyway, in less whiny news, we got a new couch.

It’s Nana and Kristie’s old couch, they got a new one and asked if we wanted this one. As much as I loved napping on our old green suede couch we’ve had since we got married, it was broken and time to be retired. I like how much more modern the grey couch looks.

But Luna 100% thinks we got it for her. She thinks we each have our own couch now and the new one is hers.

She was sleeping the back of it within 5 minutes of it being in the house. I had to throw a blanket over it and keep the cushions off to keep her from popping her claws on it. (Now that it’s in place she doesn’t seem to be doing that as much).

And lastly, we went through a box of toys to list more stuff for sale. So expect that on ebay soon. I did find baby Aragorn and set him with big Aragorn:

“Don’t talk to me or my son ever again.”
