Like seriously I don’t have much of anything to post today.
I had big plans for the weekend… I took Thursday off, and had Friday off. Pretty much everything got derailed.
One of the main projects I wanted to work on this weekend was redoing my closet. I didn’t get to do that because… oh wait. Did I ever mention our plumbing issues here? I can’t remember and I’m too lazy to go look so here’s the recap.
6/22: Chase fixes a dripping issue with our upstairs bathtub. To do this he had to turn the inside water main off. Replacement went fine, when he went to turn the water main back on, it started… slightly spraying water.
Did I mention our inside water main is inside MY closet? (not the costume closet, but like, where I keep all my real clothes.) Chase tightened everything up as best he could and it seemed to have stopped but just in case he called an emergency plumber who came out and looked at it and said it looked like Chase had fixed it.
6/23: Guess what, it’s dripping again. Another call to the emergency plumber, they come have a look, decide some kind of valve needs replaced and schedule to come back the next day to do that.
6/24: Plumber comes back – it was supposed to be a 2 man job but the second guy never showed. 4 hours and $$$ later he said it’s good to be fixed. He had to cut more of the wall open to do the repair, so Chase is going to have to replace the dry wall – he gives Chase the all clear to do that.
7/2: Chase goes to replace the dry wall so I can do my closet project over the weekend. Discovers the main is dripping water again. Another call to emergency plumber. He comes out and said some of the soldering wasn’t good and fixes it. Gives Chase the all clear to replace the dry wall. Chase decides to wait.
7/3: It’s dripping again. Another call to the plumbing company, only have 1 plumber on call that day and it’s the guy who did the “not good soldering”. Decide since it’s just a small drip we’ll wait and have someone else come on Tuesday.
7/4: Drip has turned into a fine spray. Another call to the plumbing company and they send the on call guy out that day. He fixes it again. He once again gives us the all clear to fix the drywall.
Not falling for that again. We’re waiting a while before we do that.
So my closet project is on hold. Basically when we first moved in, I wanted to paint the closet. The previous owners had the entire house repainted before putting it on the market, but I think the closets are the one place they skipped. Both the closets in our main bathroom are just really kinda dingy looking. Beige paint with all kinds of scuffs and marks on it. But I also wanted to get stuff unpacked so I skipped painting the closet. But with half my clothes having to be removed so the plumber could get in there, I figured now is the time. I had enough paint left over from painting the upstairs bathroom I decided to just paint it that nice grey. I have one wall that is a shelf wall – I bought a roll of wallpaper to put there and I’m going to paint he shelves dark green. I think it’ll be much nicer when I’m done.
Anyway that was a wall of text so let’s move on.
Wednesday ran to Joann – I am going to make Chase some new shorts since I have that simple pants pattern that fits him well. He picked out 3 fabrics and I wanted to get a good start on it this weekend and didn’t. I’ll start working on them this week.
I did pick up this tan fabric… because I realized I had this green cotton yardage… I think it’s time to remake Endor Leia. My Endor Leia shirt/vest/pants combo is the oldest Leia I still currently have in circulation. I’m going to remake all the soft parts and some updates to the helmet/belt, etc. No timeline here, because I want to do the Aurora update first.
I haven’t been able to wear Aurora since 2010, and even then I couldn’t zip it all the way up. The thing doesn’t even fit on my tiny display model – can’t zip it all the way up there, either. I was so small when I made that dress. I picked up a 1/4 yd of blue satin at Joann so I could add a panel into the back to allow it to zip up again. I decided to remake the bodice in a blue velvet (ordered online, got it Saturday but didn’t take a pic), and I’ll probably keep the hip portions and the shoulder part of the original bodice. We’ll see how it goes.
Thursday we decided to do part 2 of the white backdrop shoot!
This costume will never win any awards but it is satisfying to finally have it finished. I hate how I look in the wig but whaddya gonna do.
I can’t believe out of 5 lake dress this is the first one I’ve shot on the backdrop. I made version #4 in 2008 and sold it… we started the white backdrop shoots in 2009. So version 4 just missed the boat.
Marasiah Fel! This old wig did not want to cooperate but this is another one I’m excited to finally have updated and have photos of.
Hey look something not Star Wars.
And then the rest of the weekend was just… not a lot. Did an art project for a friend. Watched Hamilton. Had dinner at my parents’ house. Did yardwork (which just about killed both of us it was so hot out). Went swimming friday and got sunburned. Went to our fav breakfast joint and got it to-go and ate it in the car:
Of the photoshoot costumes I only have lake dress uploaded so far, here’s a few favs:
After the outdoor photoshoot I was little worried that maybe my dye job was a little too soft on the chiffon but seeing it in a neutral setting like this I’m really happy with it.
I’ve still got the other 3 sets to upload to I’ll post them next week.
So next projects:
1. Sleeping Beauty
2. Chase shorts
3. Endor Leia
4. Testing out some velvet cutting on the silhouette
5. Bail
Should I bother keeping the sidebar current projects updated? I dunno.
